Stealth builds and Shadow Deliveries

Does running a stealth built ship help avoid scans or does this tactic not work against NPC's ?
Anyone tried Robigo in a DBX ?

Here's a great thread that works. You decide if a DBX fits or not. I used it tweaking the ship to my own preferences and made millions on my first two Robigo runs after trying it out locally on smuggling runs to get the game play down.

Smuggling Missions

But this is just a tool. Add great Pilot skills getting from A to B and you'll be successful. I fly all the time like everyone is after me thus get pretty good at it.

No, no advantage as most of your time is spent in super cruise between jumps. Once you get to your final approach you can pop heat syncs to reduce your chance of a scan.

There are two factors that affect your detection rate as far as I can figure. Ship mass & heat. All small ships can be run semi stealth without silent running by keeping your heat below 30%.

Silent running's biggest advantage is to keep you off radar in PvP. This is where the Stealthback build originated.

For smuggling landings speed is your best friend. Just boost twice then hit the slot at 100% throttle. Put 4 pips to engines to ensure you have the retro thrust to not pancake on the rear wall of the station.

On the way out you can cheat the system. Lift off the pad then log out. Log back in and you're placed 10k out from the station.

I smuggle in a keelback and silent running always works for me. I just line 7 kilos away from the mail slot engage silent running and boost in. I've never failed before.

Tried some Robigo missions the other day in my Asp. Got interdicted halfway through my jumps, and the stupid thing moved around so much that I couldn't keep it in front and it failed. Dropped out, hit silent running, boost, chaff, heat sink... didn't make a difference. Scan went through, missions failed. I was not pleased.

So no, stealth doesn't help worth a crap.

Silent running does give you more time to approach the station - and you can get closer - but it won't prevent a scan. You can have the coldest running, stealthiest ship in the game (DBS) and it won't be as effective at smuggling as the fastest (Cobra).

+1 to you sir. Would have been nice to know this yesterday. I'm usually really good about not getting scanned, but got nailed yesterday on my way out of the dock while doing some long range smuggling in a Type6. Popped a heatsink, popped chaff, and boosted out at nearly 400 kph. Scanned immediately. 4 missions failed. Not happy. 4 million credits down the drain.

Silent running has nothing to do with you not getting scanned, lining up and boosting quickly through the mail slot is why you dont get scanned. Silent running does not work against security forces.

This is correct. The trick to avoid scanning is to enter the mail slot as quickly (and safely) as possible. I fly a clipper and I don't get a complete scan unless I forget/denied entry request to a station.

I may have a scan start but I'm through the slot almost immediately once notified.

Now, the part you have to worry is exiting the station. In which case, full power to engines and boost once it's safe!

Strange, i've been doing robrigo for over a week now, and only exit using chaff and silent, dare i say it, never been scanned on the way out and failed.

In regards to stealth builds, I saw a video on YouTube where a guy had a DBS I think rigged with heat sink launchers. non combat modules were set to P2 as well as life support. He would deploy weapons and engage silent running and was virtually undetected by other players. He could go 25 minutes on emergency air and his heat sinks kept him relatively low temp. Every now and again he'd turn off silent running to let the ship cool naturally. I thought it was a very clever idea myself.

Just get an Asp, load up on smuggling missions, set off, submit to all interdictions, boost away on four pips immediately, jump again and spam heat sinks with silent running on when you get to a secure space port. Reload, boost away from the station and repeat to your next destination. No one will successfully scan you, just get an A grade high class thrusters, frame shift and power distributor. I started this again last night and made 35M credits in an hour and a half from 7 missions over 400lys. Nice and easy.
