Steam down and can't play elite

Navigate to your Elite Steam installation folder (usually C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\Steamapps\Common\Elite Dangerous\Products) and double click on EDLaunch.exe.

The launcher will start.

The game doesn't actually need Steam to play at all.

Even if the game had on offline mode: if you bought via Steam it would still have been down, because Steam was down, not the game. And Monkey's solution would still have got you up & running. So there's that.

Steam:

Install something so you can install something else using the first thing you installed instead of only installing the second thing in the first pace without installing the first thing at all.

I confess, I have never used Steam to launch ED, don't even have ED registered on Steam.

So yes, I am the reason why allt those Steam Charts are utterly useless, I never appear on them :D

My son bought me ED through Steam.

But,

If you download the ED Launcher, separate from Steam, just use that to launch, saves time.

Our servers have been online without issues. The steam downtime is Steam related, not Elite Dangerous related.
The only time I really seen Elite dangerous down is weekly Server updates and New content updates. Otherwise this game been great.

You can also download Elite's non-Steam client which will work as long as you have an internet connection (above ISDN in quality).

Steam is useless, avoid spending any CPU time for this. Not needed to play ED.

Steam is the single largest game distribution service on the PC platform, offers chat systems and automatic updates for games.

It's far from useless.

If it was, it wouldn't be the largest and most popular game distribution service on the PC.
