Steam forums - Neggative publicity for Elite / no mods

Most of those negative reviews just rehash the same incorrect information ("suddenly they want money for the expansion" etc.)

Just downvote them.

This. Last week bunch of people got caught by surprise and feel bad about expansions. Nothing special all things considered.

Yup, been that way for a few years.

If you want a balanced view on a game the steam forums are not the place to go.

You are wrong. People downvote and complain because they see problems with the game. Like I mentioned in the past, good games get upvotes and a neutral forum, where people ask for advice or group up for co op content.

Some examples: Terraria 93000 reviews, 95% positive, no negative threads.
CSGO 685000 review 94% reviews positive, mostly positive threads
Skyrim 136000 reviews 90% positive, no negative threads
Borderlands 2, 65000 reviews, 96% positive, no negative threads
Mount and Blade Warband, 29000 reviews, 97% positive, no neg thr

And I know a lot more examples. Stop saying the steam community is negative. Its negative with games that aren't good. People that have bought Elite, bought it hoping to get a fun space experience, and they are disappointed. They simply have a point. ED has problems, which instead of being fixed, are ignored, and FD focuses their efforts on paid expansions. Ofc the people on the forums aren't pleased, and they shouldn't be.

Problem is for better or worse those are genres with no fan tribalism goin on. Space sims, in another hand, is huge turmoil right now. Involving EvE players and SC fans who take ED as passing time till Jesus second coming named SC 1.0. Add NMS, bunch of false assumptions how much games can deliver and you get quite a few toxic people.

Also ED forums on Steam has been toxic since Steam release. Mostly those people are there to troll - for various known and unknown reasons.

So while ED has lot to improve, most of Steam forum negativity has little to do with game as it is.

I'm modding on Steam daily (And I'm not the only one!)

Sorry it's not to everyone's liking. :)
You do your best Jenner and thank you :) At times I know only too well it's a thankless task, except for this post of course ;)
As for me I don't have a problem with criticism as long as it is constructive. Sometimes it's even more helpful to the dev team than supportive posts if those criticisms have a firm base and are explained in a well put together fashion. Discussion, never argument, always wins the day in my book.

I own all but one of those games on steam.. there has been PLENTY of negative threads on their forums over the years, trust me. Less lately as they are dirt cheap to buy in sales probably.

Terraria may be an exception, mainly because it's always been dirt cheap and people are less likely to moan.

Anyway.. still better than metacritic :D

When I say lack of content I am specifically referring to the fact that
Sidewinder, ok it is a starter ship so I can run missions this is good and as it should be.
I can from here upgrade to a viper and do bounty hunting or conflict zones: ok I have a specific ship for a specific goal that lines up with an in game profession so far so good
I can upgrade to a hauler and get into trading: good progression, I am picking a different ship than the one above to better accomplish a different profession than the one above.
I can upgrade to a Adder and kit it out for exploration: great for the same reason above. I have a specific ship for a specific task and I have new content (a new profession) I can do with that ship.
I upgrade to an Asp: ok, now I am in a deluxe ship that is good for whatever profession I chose above. What can I do with my Asp that I cant do with any of the ships above?
I can go into the same conflict zones, follow the same trade routes, explore the same systems. but still it is ok because I am doing it better
From a Vulture to a Python to an Anaconda: I can
Go into the exact same conflict zone I was in in my Viper
Follow the exact same trade route I could in my hauler or Asp
Explore the exact same systems I could in my Adder
The amount of time (read credits) it takes to go from a 6 million credit Asp to an Anaconda is quite a upgrade yet no content opens up to me along the way. Nothing
When I get the apex ship. The Anaconda, the most expensive, best ship in the game.... no content opens up to me, there is nothing I can do in game with an Anaconda that I can't do with ships that are 100 million credits cheaper.

Well said that man! Totally agree

I spent some time reading the ED steam reviews. Nothing shocking there. Same complaints as on here and same complaints as on Reddit. Almost all of the recent reviews explained why they didn't like it. Many are upset about the expansion.

Maybe, just maybe, a lot of gamers don't find the game all that fun in it's current state. And maybe, just maybe, they're not happy to have to pay extra to get the fun they thought they already paid for. Maybe.

So, all of those negative reviews are from SC/NMS/whatever shills? How ironic.

A lot of forums are negative and the Steam community forums are one of the worst examples. Other forums like here have their own problems as well whether it be the active trolls or otherwise, but the ED forums are certainly one of the better ones I've been a part of.

Not at all. I covered forums. Negative reviews are there, but so is positive and they are majority - despite people claiming they will decrease that score when Steam keys will be available.

And no, this is not hyperbole, I wish it was. It goes all around in sim world, where toxic, tribal "my game will make yours obsolete because I backed it" attitude seems to be worrying norm. As no these forums nor subreddit reins on toxic and hateful messages, but other games forums do, ED is very open target.

Majority of flamebait posts going on here would be removed instantly.

FD just takes the beating because they want to be openly critized here. Funny how CIG development is deemed to be more open despite no harsh criticism allowed on their forums.

I wish I was English like my hero Tj.

I don't know about that. I see plenty of critical posts on the RSI forums. Look at that Cutlass thread that is like 2 million posts and counting. That is pretty much all criticism of CIG.
