Steam overwrote my xbox controller binds!

I've been playing on an Xbox Elite controller for the past few years. I like using the paddles for shift-key combo's, so I have nearly all controls mapped. My Elite controller has been getting very worn out, and the LB and down dpad have stopped working.

So I just got a new Xbox Elite controller series 2. Nice and shiny, and feels good. As soon as I opened Elite Dangerous and clicked play, A steam notification popped up saying Xbox controller configuration loaded, or something like that. This overwrote ALL my controls. I went into Steam settings, and it seems like the new controller turned on Xbox controller configuration support without my permission. I wasn't even aware this feature even existed until now.

Luckily, I have been backing up my keybinds, so I have a backup made from November 2020. Always backup! This is the 3rd time in my Elite career to have my key binds overwritten, and 2nd time my backup has saved me a lot of time.

There was a newspaper headline I saw in the local paper about some guy I knew. It said "man's hat blows off in storm."

I nearly forgot, this was front page news.

Figured it was time for a monthly thread about losing keybinds. I feel for all who have to rebind their stuff cause of silly things that can happen.

A thread a few years ago about losing binds was what got me in the habit for backing things up! :)

Edit: Switching from old Xbox Elite controller to new Series 2 Elite controller requires me to partially remap some keys. It is detecting it as a new type of controller, so it isn't liking some of my old binds.
