Probably many of you know, but it seems that the Steam sale has started, and Elite Dangerous is £4.99 for the basic game, or £15.99 for the Commander Deluxe edition.....

Time for an extra copy, maybe :)

never understood the appeal of multiple accounts of ED. Somehow I always get the impression the people buying those still are trying to kick the Eve online habit. And that game was pretty much designed to play with multiple alts. ED? not much so.

On the one hand, yeah, I had a multiple EVE account habit once upon a time... but I'm ok now [haha]

On the other... I have 2x Elite Dangerous accounts already, and a third is mighty tempting... [alien]

Why? Because... so... many.. things... so many places... It saves me having to move one CMDR around all over the place, trying to do all the things.

I can have one CMDR for this, one for that, one for the other. Yeah, my progress will be slower. But thats ok, I'm a filthy casual anyway :D Sure, I may never have all the 'best' things. But thats ok, I like the Adder, the Hauler, and other weird suboptimal stuff, too [wacko]

Also, the same deals are available (give or take the odd penny) through the Frontier store as of right now, too! :cool:

Well we don't have the option of multiple CMDR slots (we should) so additional accounts are the only way to explore alternative gameplay approaches (eg play a criminal vs law abiding citizen, try hardcore), or to revisit the early game without resetting/corrupting/compromising one's main character. I'd love to try alternative approaches and revisit the early game but we don't have additional slots - I refuse to buy an additional copy of the game, no matter how cheap it might be, as I firmly believe we should have at least 1 or 2 additional slots.

I’ll pick up another account for sure, but also wanted to point out Planet Coaster is $11 right now. Too good to pass up, getting a couple copies (one for me, one for my daughter )

Yeah I saw that too, I've wanted PC for awhile now and I think it's finally the time to get it!

You have very little imagination, sir. I have four accounts and use them all for different things. You can't have the same commander play the role of a notorious pirate and a fuel rat, as an example. Can you imagine what would happen if you called the fuel rats and that well-known wizard turned up to help. I don't think that would work, somehow. As well as playing different characters when you want, there's other things, like making videos to show say noobs how to play, but if you have the rank of elite, different things happen, so you can't show fair examples. Also, you can be in more than one place at the same time. It's a bit of a pain when you're exploring in the outer reaches of the galaxy and then something interesting happens in the bubble or if a friend wants to wing up for whatever reason. Personally, I can't see how anybody could play with only one account. it's OK when you're learning, but after that, it's too restrictive.

The restrictions are why I play with only one account. When I'm playing Elite I'm roleplaying some low life space jockey doing odds and ends around the galaxy making ends meet to keep his ship flying. I like the tension that comes with knowing that if I set off to explore the Abyssal Plains I won't be seeing a space station for months to come, nor another commander either. That solitude adds to the game for me. It requires a commitment and resolve that I wouldn't otherwise experience if I could simply load up another account to do a CG back in the bubble.

I know this doesn't apply to everyone, but being able to play multiple commanders would ruin the immersion factor for me. Three years and I'm not even triple Elite yet on one Commander, I can't fathom playing multiple!!!

It's actually the cosmetics that keep me from buying multiple accounts. The thought of not being able to utilise my paintjobs across different roles puts me off.

People raise the additional account revenue as a reason Frontier don't add multiple Commander slots, but they would encourage me to add paint jobs to my pool for roles I'm playing.

But given these deep discounts in the base game price, does anyone else think we might be seeing interesting new pricing for content in the new year?
