Steam - the real Oculus Rift issue!

So what methods do you employ to stop the lenses of your Rift from fogging up (especially this time of year when it's cooler and damper)? If I don't do something to stop it, I spend the first half hour or so wiping the mist off the lenses every minute until the whole Rift gets warmed up enough from wearing it. These are the things I do before using the Rift to stop my Rift lenses from steaming up:

* If the central heating is on, place the lenses on top of the radiator for 5 minutes, then install them.
* If the central heating is not on but I've just used the kettle, dump the lenses in the remaining hot water from the kettle, dry off when hot, then install.
* If none of the above, run the hot tap until hand hot and then dump the lenses in a sink of warm water for a couple of minutes, dry, and install.

The main issue is the lenses seem to have a lot of thermal mass as it were and take a LONG time to warm up unless you do something actively. I've however not seen anyone else complain that the lenses constantly fog up so either everyone does something like the above, or I'm unusually moist!

I get it too. My only advice, and I know this is a poor solution, is to not take them off when you're playing. That way the fog condenses into a liquid on your lenses which is less obstructive than fog.

While starting the PC I wear a scarf to avoid grease on the lenses and put the Oculus on my head, start the E: D while surfing a bit the web. After I start the game and no fog.
I also applied some paper in the opening gap in front of my nose to avoid that the air from my nose enters the googles.
But leaving it on the head for a while with something keeping the screen on helps.

Turn on your Rift 20-30 minutes before you intend on playing. Make sure your rift desktop is something other than black. This way it warms up the lenses. I don't get fogging after doing this and if I do it goes away after about 5 minutes of play.

I have this same issue - and then some! - all because my gaming rig is in my garage at the end of my garden (no heating except for a small halogen heater). They say outer-space is extremely cold but I'm sure my garage gets colder on occasion :)

I avoid wiping the lenses at all if I can (to avoid the minute scratches that they WILL get). I turn my rig on for at least 15-20 mins before I play (make a cup of tea or crack a beer and read the forum for a while). At the same time I hang my DK2 a safe distance above my halogen heater (front facing downwards - NOT lenses downwards) until the entire DK2 temperature reaches slightly higher than my normal head temp (its important that the whole headset reaches this temp - not just the lenses). When I play I have a warm DK2 on my head, I NEVER have to wipe the lenses and am always 'fog free'.
Whilst on the subject - I do have the odd 6+hr sessions (continuous except for smoke/pee breaks) - and do have to occasionally 'shake out' moisture build-up that gathers at the inside bottom of the headset during these long sessions.
Fly safe, Commanders

Use a dry wetwipe, spit on it, wipe across each lens.
loosen the headband until the unit literally rests on the end of your nose.
this way, you get to play straight away, fog doesnt build up, and after around 4-6 minutes your good to tighten the strap again.

I duct-taped a bunch of the little plastic, cylindrical desiccant packs they put in pill bottles, as well as a couple silica gel packets, around the inside of the rift. I'm not sure if those are actually helping at all, but what IS definitely helpful is the duct tape I put between the nose indent and the lenses to create a sort of seal separating the air surrounding the lenses from the air I'm breathing out of my nose. Picture snorkeling goggles.

I think this is something far too many people are paranoid about. If it helps.. my lenses are scratched beyond belief. One scratch goes from top to the bottom of the lens and is quite deep (not sure how that happened). Anyway.. you don't notice it a jot inside the rift and I stopped worrying about it. It will be obsolete soon anyway.

I just wipe with my finger until the fogging stops.

if you warm the lenses a touch before using and i find they are fine.

other than that a polite wipe now and then was all i needed. indeed, (unless you just got out of the shower and have damp hair) if you get fogging after prolonged use, rather than just at start up with cold lenses, it may be a warning sign that you are sweating a little bit and your body is hinting you need a break.

I was happy to just wipe my lenses as well. My thinking was exactly the same as yours, this headset is just a stopgap and I'll soon be replacing it.

After the news of the Vive launch date slip I've started to treat my lenses with a little more care. They might have to last me a few decades.

Funny, I never experienced any fogging in my rift. Like at all. But my pc is on more or less 24/7 so maybe i have a high enough stable temp
in the room im gaming/developing in.

It's condensate. It happens when it's cold in my room... after some minutes playing the temperature gets the same and everything is fine!
