Steam's 1000 most-played games, Elite Dangerous is not in it due to a lack of Achievements

There's a list of the 1000 most-played games on Steam with total unique players as of July 1, 2018. Elite Dangerous isn't in it, because it lacks achievements. I think it wouldn't be listed high due to 1. because ED is a niche-game 2. ED lacks EVA gameplay.

The quality of life improvements and new features of ED: Beyond are great and helps to make it more appealing for the long-term future. What would really make ED appealing to a mainstream gamer audience is by adding EVA and FPS gameplay. Because games like Grand Theft Auto and Mass Effect have proven to be much more popular than a simulator where you're stuck in a pilot seat.

Update: ED is not listed, because it only ranks games with achievements. The thread can be closed.

Elites not there because the list is generated from achievements data, and Elite doesn't have Steam achievements.

Let them finish BEYOND and hopefully reduce a bit the grind and improve the mission systems.

After that I think the game really needs atmospheric landing which will take long time I guess to add features to all type of planets and economies. Consider icy, rocky, volcanic, high metal content, water world, ammonia and ELW. On top consider all ELW in the bubble with different economy types... Agricultural I love to think thez are all green and blue with lots of crop fields and industrial are kind of big cities full of smog.
If FDEV integrates all this I guess minimum 3 years of development but it would be good to see contents little by little instead of waiting 3 years to get the full cake.

Im' quite sure that as atmospheric landings will come with some content this game will get much more popularity.

And Legs will come at the end because if someone is not interested in this content the game needs to be anyway completed.

Ah fair enough. How high or low would it be though?

Before SteamSpy's stats were effectively nuked by Steam's GDPR-influenced data changes, Elite had roughly 1.2m players.

Meanwhile, from the released Steam data in Ars Technica's article, Planet Coaster has 1.7m players and Jurassic World Evolution has 0.5m players - not bad considering the latter was released only a fortnight ago

Much of those unique players aren't active anymore though. That number is much lower on Steam. Most of the players who bought ED stopped logging in a while ago. Maybe Beyond brought some of them back.

I was waiting for such a noob-DOOMED thread after reading Ars Technica's article this morning :D
We really need an Elite-themed "headshot" meme - most gamers who aren't basically unlocks in JWE didn't get to experience Pure Pwnage in its pomp.

Somothing like a gif of a player getting insta-gibbed by a coriolis...

Sorry bud - you don't get to comment on this thread any more.

A headshot for mindless ED fanboys who defend the game and don't look at it objectively would be good. :p

So? Neither is the list generated by Ars Technica - it's total unique players ever.

What's this thread about again?

So we well know ED has a problem with retaining players. The lack of Achievements on Steam could be a factor.

So do you think the original poster started this thread out of ignorance, or to flame/bait/troll?
Which would contravene rule 2: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showt...23-May-2016)?p=3895609&viewfull=1#post3895609

Just deciding if I should report this or not :p

I don't mind if this thread gets closed, because, as pointed out, ED is not listed due to a lack of achievements on Steam.

Achievements are a driving force for certain people that keeps them playing. Such as completionists. :p
