Stellar forge 'fixed' to the point of broken

Nobody can deny that the forge is totally awesome. However if you took a rail gun out of the game then there would be uproar! So when they *fix* a system 36,000 ly away that only I knew about which provided many hours of entertainment I'm not happy either. If it was never there than fair enough. But removing those rare finds is a different matter.

Not so. Railguns are legitimate content, whereas what you want was not supposed to be in the game in the state it was in. If anything, Frontier fixing the galaxy forge is closer to addressing an exploit.

Unfortunately since that video was made it's been fixed - great example though - never to be seen again.

And if you don't think shepherd moons get bombarded by roids then... :)

Thing for me is, now the universe is perfect with none of the OP content. Why would Fdev create these FX if no asset could use them?

It seems like you want to put the cart before the horse.

Thank you for your responses and I was expecting the common feedback that the engine can't show destruction and birth. But think a little further ahead of the game....

Now that FDev have broken the universe and these things cannot happen because they are 'fixed' you can wave goodbye to EVER seeing this interaction being developed. If worlds can't collide then there is no need to create these 'effects'. If rings can't intersect then that will save some more dev time right?

I know that if a planet hits a star it's a one time moment in reality but I'm happier having fun with these objects even if there are no GFX to go with them.

So before this gets fixed.... enjoy, glad I captured it before the 'fix'

To put a positive spin to this. Perhaps FDev are planning to intentionally implement these rare collisions , but the current clipping bugs and unintended displays are being addressed and had to go. Perhaps they are working on more interesting stellar and system phenomena ongoing for the goal to do so in a better realistically simulated way (and perhaps more costly in resources), rather than these events would never be implemented. The massive 2020 upgrade could be addressing some of this so someday somewhere in the ED verse a cmdr could come across a supernova or expanding giant in the process of enveloping and ripping apart a planet with all the spectacular effects that go with it. There could be some gameplay where someone could get tipoffs and being elite rank in explorer , visit a science station for details of an impending supernova, with lighting effect spilling over and seen by neighboring systems, etc.

BRING BACK THE MONOLITH !!!!
https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php/210944-LIST-HORIZONS-WONDERS?highlight=horizon+wonder

Nutter is one of a handful of explorers who has my respect, and on this topic I not only agree, but have been boringly and repeatedly asking FD to keep their mitts off these bugs.
We had spectacular canyons and mountains, fire worlds where you needed heatsinks to land and take off(LoLwut hell), and the infamous Monolith.
These WERE ED's tourist destinations, now gone forever.

This game is becoming more sterile as it develops.

If they don't announce Atmospheric for 2020 I will mothball this game.

Thanks Dognosh - You hit the nail on the head, all of those fantastic rare sites have been deleted by FDev - I never got to the Monolith before it was flattened with 2.2 :(

I thought that my intersecting ring systems were safe from fixing but seems they hit the entire stella forge with a script. Only positive I can take from it is that at least I won't waste time looking for what has gone now. The negative is that the whole reason I explored was to find these fantastic sites.

:(

How about everyone who cares for a realistic representation of the galaxy?

We have many other un-realistic things that aren't even amusing, things like two systems so close to each other that you should be able to travel from one to another yet when you arrive there's nothing. If we already have ghost stars and invisible comets, what's the harm of clipping planets?

Two wrongs don't make a right.

Heh! Don't mention the speed limit on thrust! :D

Anyway my playstyle is to find the bizarre, others like PvP or Trading, Fdev deleted my game

Cut the drama, when you backed the game it wasn't marketed as nonsensical phenomena simulator. :)

"Blaze your own trail" ... Explore....

It makes total sense for supernova and collisions. Nonsensical? - Lets not run down the list of current in-game as designed nonsensical items

Please re-read my initial argument. I am not against collisions as long as they are represented in game. If it's just two objects clipping through each other that's a serious bug and needs to be fixed.

No, but as you can see, there's no harm in having unrealistic things, in fact, it's sometimes necessary.

You are missing the point. The stellar forge has always been about creating a realistic representation of the galaxy. Following your argument we shouldn't play in the milky way at all.

After that we get a game tacked on it and it realism no longer matters as much. It seems like you missed the entire design philosophy of the game.
