Stellar Tactics combines a classic narrative driven, Party-Based RPG with turn based ground combat, space exploration and a deep character and ship customization system. You will build a team of elite mercenaries and explore a vast universe of over 200,000 systems.

The game is designed to accept episodic content that will fill the canvas of its massive universe for years to come. With millions of planets, numerous factions and a nearly infinite playability, Stellar Tactics was designed from the ground up to become a rich and diverse Sci-Fi RPG sandbox.

As a Classic RPG, you can expect rich character interaction, dialog tree's and statistic based dialog options for Charisma, Intelligence, Strength and Perception. The options can change the course of interaction in numerous ways. Besides main storyline missions, a dynamic mission AI generates missions based on your current location in the universe and faction alignment. There is always something to do in Stellar Tactics.

Mining for resources both in asteroid belts and on planets generates wealth to help you upgrade your ships, 40 different types in all that can be purchased, attained through special missions or taken by disabling and boarding your enemies. These ships can be sold or kept for later use. A dynamic economy ebb's and flows with the activities of the background AI. As an example, hostile factions destroying a convoy of merchant vessels could cause a commodities price to skyrocket offering opportunities for savvy traders to make a killing.

Tactical, turn based team combat presents new challenges for strategic players. Devices allow the player to fit a total of 12 unique effects both beneficial and combat specific across their team members. Discovery of ancient civilizations could provide you with powerful team based attacks that can annihilate your enemies. Team members with high intelligence may develop psionic powers that allow them to unleash devastating attacks. Shields, weapons (both melee and ranged) and equipment can all be upgraded with Nano-Tech and component parts. Hundreds of skill based perks allow you to customize your team members for the challenges of deep space. Your team members will level through using their skills and defeating enemies in a classless progression system. Space combat will be action based and your ship and weapons will respond to the ship specific skills your team develops over time.

This is a game that surprised me even in early access, the prologue itself is very well done and already provides many hours of gameplay.

It reminds me a lot of Fallout 1 and 2 but with space travel with your ship.

Graphically it is not the best, but it fulfills its role very well.

What's the space combat like? From the pictures I'd guess a little bit of Homeworld?

Thanks for mentioning this, I like the look of it. I'll definitely read up on it but can't watch videos right now.

This in early access and the combat possibly will come in the next big update. For now only travel within the system, go on planets and stations and mining are available.

But any questions if asked in the steam "discussions", the developer promptly replied.

As there was a discussion about this in another thread, I am reopening this one, so we can carry on here :)

This is one of the incoming games I'm currently looking forward to the most.

This and the game made by the same guys from the original XCOM.

Something Phoenix - yeah, looking forward to that one as well. I actually had a pleasure of meeting Julian Gollop during Lavecon 2015 when he was promoting his Chaos Reborn game. Very humble guy. It was an honour - I spent countless hours with XCOM back in a day :)

I've got as far as I can go in the main story so far. Is there any other random or procedural stuff apart from doing missions for Zabin?

I played for 25 hours and I really enjoyed it. But now I'm waiting for the update that will open the gates and release all systems and most of the game content.

I played about 3-4 hours. The premise of the game is impressive, as is the achievement of the (single!) developer. The combat is still a bit bare bones though, but I hope that will improve.

Some details about what de developer are working for in the next update:

Progress update - 5/11/18

"Hi all - just a quick progress update to let you know what's going on with the game. No screenshots or videos this time. I'll be sure to record a video and post it as soon as I get a little farther in this update.
Many of you who have been following the game know by now how I work - content and feature updates and then bug fixes and stability.
I'm currently working on the next content update - opening the FTL gates. I don't have an ETA, though I am finally focusing 100% of my time/effort on getting everything ready.
This means I'm wrapping up a lot of content for the procedural mission system and I'm about 3/4 of the way through the mission sets - so that's great news. Following that I'll be moving them into the game and propagating them into the mission system and out into the universe.
All the various stations (agricultural, industrial, trade, outpost, shipyard, refinery, solar collector and research) have all been modeled and waiting for me for months. I finally have them all rigged and ready to go.
For the FTL update, I'l be wrapping up the Crew Manager which will allow you to recruit up to 20 mercs that you can bring with you on missions. Part of this is making sure new crew members are available for you on stations as you explore the universe. I'll be adding a number of unique crew members that you can find that have back stories and missions, though that won't come until Alpha. I have other plans for crew members and I'll explain more about that once I get a bit further along in the design.
Another part of this work will be implementing commodities trading and the ability for you to mark trade routes on the map and track commodity prices across the universe using Data Buoy's to collect information on price changes in systems you've visited. Right now ore/minerals are in the game and can be mined, bought and sold. I'll also be adding a whole slew of other commodities and goods that can be traded. After all, you are going to need something to fill your cargo holds with besides raw ore and loot. I'll also be working on some QoL features everyone has been asking for related to marking junk items for bulk sale and sorting.
I'm also going to bring the mission system to the next phase so you can mark missions and select them in the log. Selected missions will be placed on the screen in a mission tracker and you will be able to set missions as your destination. Selected missions will be highlighted on the star map and provide visual queues on the screen so you can easily navigate to systems on the FTL map (something you haven't seen in the game yet) and in systems to the actual planet or station where they are located.
In addition to the above, I'll be working on some of the items in the "What's next" pinned post - updated character animations, repair system, new tutorials for space combat and mining and more. I may roll out a few features from this list before the FTL Content update as they become ready.
So, the goal of the next major content update is to get everyone out into the sandbox so you can explore, trade and take missions.
That's all I have for this update. Hope you all have a great weekend and thanks again for supporting Stellar Tactics!"

Yeah, its a mamouth task he has, but it looks really good.
I used to love games like this, but I went off them and haven't played this type for years now. Might give it a go though, but I'll give it a little more time.
