Stepping down from active duty, farewell Elite Dangerous for now - Drew Wagar

Just read your blog. It seems so 'final'. Does it have to be?
.
At 58 years of age, i find i still have (and cling to) a developed sense of wonder. No doubt, you have something similar - which is where the stories come from. Tend that patch with care.
.
"Quitting" Elite does not have to be a binary decision. For me, it will always be 'the spaceship i own' - the other place i can go. Life in the U.S. has taught me to thrive no matter how i feel about the disgusting unfolding of politics - and i take that into the Elite universe, too.
.
Admittedly, it's the wonder that makes me enjoy the game regardless of everyone else's expectations & objections. That same, (somewhat innocent) wonder that made me curious about what was happening inside those red-roofed houses causes me to speculate on what's inside those storage tanks at the remote ports.
.
"Time poor" should mean nothing when playing Elite - only if you're running some self-imposed race, or feel like you're "losing" to someone else.
.
All the best, Drew.

So sorry to hear this. I was really hoping a collaboration between authors and the game content folk would happen. Wish you the best in your next endeavor Drew !

I've dreamed of a game with interesting characters and lore, mostly thank to Elite:Reclamation.
I thought the books could have been the source of those things but I was mistaken.
Hello lifeless characters with no past or future, goodbye Lady Kahina.
Fly safe, Drew.

Ouch.... why would they turn you down ?

Do they have something really good up in sleeve ?
He could have help with it.... perhaps FD was afraid of bringing outside folks to inner circle.... but Drew ?
Someone who wrote a book about your game ?
Damn you can always let people write "nonimportant stuff" like story missions....

Wasn't that some miscommunication ?

Would like to hear what other side has to say about this.

Not going to go on at length as I have done that too much already elsewhere. Thanks again for all that you have worked on, your efforts to continue to contribute, and very sorry to see you go. I think Frontier have missed a huge opportunity and perhaps even shot themselves in the foot by not engaging you and the other authors in maintaining the lore, ongoing story line, and mission writing. Very sad day for Elite Dangerous. All the best and I look forward to the Shadeward Saga. Hope to see you in the Black (or a certain other multi-colour universe) again. I will try not to accidentally shoot you from behind next time. ;-)

Some of you may recall that I was involved in the initial 2012 Kickstarter for Elite: Dangerous in a small way. We had rather a lot of fun and games working out how to get some novels funded back then. Suffice to say, through the generosity of the fans, I, along with a number of other authors, were able to write official stories within a game we had loved since childhood.

Those stories have been well received by and large, they paint a picture of how we saw Elite: Dangerous at the time. For myself, I added some characters that people have been enthusiastic about, notably Senator Kahina Loren and Luko Prestigio-Giovanni. I'm truly gratified that folks have taken the trouble to write to me about how much they enjoyed their adventures and asking for more.

Things have moved on since and the game is evolving in new directions. Powerplay has set a new tone for the in game lore and there's the promise of new and exciting content to come. At this time there isn't an opportunity for me to inject more of my type of story into the Elite universe, so I'm taking a leave of absence for now. Perhaps the opportunity for sequels will come at some point and I'll be more than happy to help out.

I'd like to take this opportunity to thank Frontier, and all the fans for their support and generousity over the last two and a half years in giving me the opportunity and support to realise a long held dream of writing an official book in the Elite universe. I hope you all considered it was worth it, I certain did.

So, it's not goodbye, but it's farewell for now, as my blog explains. I have some other projects to work on.

Fly safe in the void, and, of course,

Right on, Commanders.

Cheers,

Drew.

Stay well Drew. Thank you for all your wonderful work.
