Still in love: A white Knights rant

All I seem to see around here is butt hurt!
I think the devs need to know that many of us still love this game, and are looking forward to the plans they have for the future...whatever they may be.

Butt hurt about the Gnosis. This is a space sim. Space isn’t just big...it’s dangerous. That’s literally the name of the game. You jump on an exploration vessel, during war time, that was planning on going to unprotected and uncharted territory. You have traitors in your own ranks and you advertise this jump for weeks. If you were the enemy, what would you do?
What were you all really hoping for? Jump to some little pocket and scan stuff for a month and go home? Sound like fd planned something way cooler! Fits and adds to the narrative. Don’t be at fd. Be at the goids! Space is big. Space is dangerous. Not everything is going to go as planned. If you can’t take a bloody nose, maybe you should stay home.
Sure fd dropped the ball and posted to galnet early. But so what? Looks like you had a window of opportunity to jump ship.
Now the fines for defending the gnosis...that’s a bloody shame. Did anyone survive long enough for it to really matter? Wipe your bloody nose and Prepare for the inevitable cg and get your vengeance

Butt hurt about development. Think of the man hours that have gone into all the updates that have happened over the life of this game. Think of how much money that has cost. This game has grown so much over its lifetime. How can you even think that FD is abandoning this game? If your not having fun any more, take a break. Understand, that you can play content way faster than the devs can make it, simply because the amount of code it takes to add a small feature is staggering. Trust me, if you take a month hiatus, you will come back and wonder why you stopped playing at all!

Butt hurt about lack of exploration content. This one hits close to home. Thats what I do. After all my hours. All my light years, I still haven't discovered every planet :D It may take me hours, even days, but I do stumble upon places that make my jaw drop. I think thats what makes exploring rewarding. If they were everywhere, it wouldnt be special. Its a space sim. Space has a lot of boring rocks. The scope of this game is truly massive. I feel it is probably the most massive game world ever made. Its going to take time to flesh it out properly. I see a lot of people that put ideas out there on how they feel the game should be changed. This is great as long as it remains constructive. Attacking the devs because they dont do what you say is ridiculous.

Its funny how a short rant can make you feel better. I think in the end, we all have to remember, this is THEIR game. They will change the direction and narrative as they see fit. Do you get mad at an author when a novel doesnt go the way you thought? Did you curse George Lucas when Aldoran blew up? They dont owe us anything. Be thankful we have devs that tell us anything! Be thankful that they havent decided to just move on. If you gave to the kickstarter, be grateful that you got to be a part of such an amazing experience. This game wont last forever, but you cant deny that its been one hell of a ride already!

I love this game, I really do. The foundation of the game is fantastic, with excellent visual and sound design, and it's still the best thing going in VR.

But I'm a believer in this game because of all of the potential that I saw at launch, and I'm starting to feel like that potential is being squandered. Things seemed to be moving in the right direction with Horizons, it was a bit of a hot mess at launch but it was a move in the right direction. But since then, we haven't gotten much other than a much-needed (IMHO) overhaul of engineering, which I did appreciate.

More importantly though, is the fact that we keep being promised things and then end up being disappointed. I wish that FD would either promise less or deliver more, whichever it takes to end this cycle of Coming Soon®.

Coming Soon --> Coming Later (can't do trademark on xbox... sadface)

Do not believe you. It is called something else, but I am pretty sure the forum will not allow me to type it.
Bryan K has a valid point, however it blankets over too large an area. 'Some of us who...' would be more accurate.

I personally criticize the hell out of this game because I want it to improve. I also try to help anyone I can, make any suggestions that seem logical and achievable, spew vile rhetoric when I'm sleepy, and play peanut gallery every chance I can.

Just not all the critics are critics for positive reinforcement. Some just suck lol.

I might be one of the latter, but I will keep trying.

You know its entirely possible to enjoy a game but also see the downsides of it.

Also, tone down on the use of butt-hurt it makes you look like an idiot.

Na. I really like the term Butt hurt.
That was a really nice try and making me butt hurt though. Butter luck next time.
Butt hurt

All of the joking aside...I just think it would be pro-active for us to acknowledge all the positive things that have come over the years. You catch more flies with honey than you do vinegar, and with all the negative posts, I wouldnt be an excited dev if I were on the project.
I am a support engineer. I fix things that are broken. I get a ton more done when the community around the project I am working on is positive, supportive and excited.
