Stop taking off without insurance

dont know how often i was taking of with less credits than insurance cost, just to buy that fancy upgrade for my vessel. is this a game for carebears? my answer is NO! if its too much risk for you, stop whining and play some HelloKitty Online ;)

Is there a way to insure your cargo?

I recently bought a a Lakon type 6 and am now running up to 1.2 million in Palladium cargo a trip to save up for a advanced discovery module. So far only on a short trip with the station very close to the star. I still got interdicted but managed to escape so far. I've been leaving 100k for insurance, I'll check that panel now to see what my actual insurance is. Losing my entire assets worth about 2.5 million, I think that will end the game for me.

I'll be switching back to a cheaper ship before exploring, fuel costs and insurance are pretty high on the type 6. Although I guess those 1.5 million for a discovery module will add to the insurance cost :/

Is there a place that says its 5%? Or that its static like that amongst ships?

The amount of excess you pay depends on whether you are a kickstarter, beta backer, or just purchased the game. It is 4% if you are a beta backer, less if you bought before beta. I think a normal purchase of the game now gives 10%. if you check your status page (default: button "4") in-game on the Finance tab it will tell you your insurance cover (e.g. 90%, 96% etc.).

This will miss it's target audience by at least 20,000 Ls

EDIT: I don't think it's new players that create the uproar. It's experienced players who choose to fly commando who make the noise.

New players are actually covered by the loan. imo, the loan should not have a cap, but cost interest.
That would be better from gamistic aspects, and more realistic.

96% (beta backer here) of my ship is insured. All i have to make sure of is covering the 4% re-buy cost.

I'm amazed there's no mechanism for converting real-world cash to in-game credits. something like £10 gets you 1MCr. Given the popularity of flying without adequate cover, you'd think it'd be a nice cash cow.

(quick f*g-packet calculation based on the RL/ED price of a ton of gold reveals that 1Cr = £2560, altho i haven't factored in 1000 years of inflation. might be too steep for some!)

Of course, if this is the case, it's already too late - you have to take off. Unless you adhere to the maxim "a strange game...the only winning move is not to play". ;)

You do not have to take off, you can swap expensive modules for cheaper ones.

If you accidently bought too much cargo, you can sell it off again, or be it at a slight loss.

But you CAN make the cr back and cover your re-buy bill WITHOUT taking off.

I vote sticky!

Maybe it'll help seeing as sticking it in the manual (that everyone was berating FD for not having...) plainly isn't enough for certain users :p

I've flown without insurance with each new ship up to and including my Python. I prefer to trade up at the first possible chance I get - I only add a bit extra to fill the hold up when I've purchased. You take a risk but ED is not especially dangerous and careful flying avoids any issues. I do appreciate that perhaps some have been caught out by bugs and I feel for them in that case; there but for the grace of God etc.

Hope you'll never have to eat those words, but what you describe is precisely what went wrong for a number of people....overconfidence.

Quite a few of those who've lost millions stated that they could always evade interdictions, or never been overmatched by an NPC. They genuinely believed the AI had nothing on them, and that they'd be safe indefinitely....until

They didn't loose their ships to bugs, they lost them to getting cocky.

Quoting that for future use aka when you open your "Stupid insurance, I lost my Conda 5min after I bought it" thread.

I don't want a Conda;). In any case, I purchased the Python some time back and I have more than enough to cover any little accidents now. Safe flying!

Now I'am really careful :)
I'am usually not sober either when I fly :D
So I set aside 4 times rebuy costs :) (gives you a nice big account)

To Straigth flyin'

Cheers Cmdr's (litterally :) )
