Storage for modules?

Storage for modules at stations?

Can somebody enlighten me as to why you would want to store modules or cargo ?
You have an Asp, it's fitted for exploration, you hunted down the best deal for that large fuel scoop.
You finished exploring (for now), you need to refit with better shields, don't need that fuel scoop any longer (until you go exploring again), you store it, so it's easily found for when you're ready for the next round of exploring.
TL;DR Multiple setups available at your home base for one ship, instead of buying 3 of the same ship.

To have the modules available you need. I'm bounty hunting, pirating, smuggling, doing missions and occasionally mining. You can image what a pain it is to refit all the time.

Yes please.

Do you know how hard it was to find C3 gimballed beam lasers? I spent an entire evening (months ago) searching for the damned things. Now that I have them I'm afraid to try anything else in those hardpoints. If I decide I want them back I don't want to go searching for them again, just let me pull them out of storage.

Maybe they could balance it by limiting our storage by weight. If I wanted to store all five weapons from my Python I'd need 32 tons of storage space, for example. So maybe we'd get 50 tons of storage, or 100 tons.

I voted no. The above post details actual gameplay... That thing so many claim the game lacking.

Not everywhere sells everything. Lets say you buy C3 gimballed pebble thrower at Lave to replace your C4 space torches. You travel to elsewhere and decide you want the C4s again... Currently elsewhere does not sell C4 but this idea means they now magically have just the right amount for you, no one else... Just you... How?

Why not just have everything available at the highest discount everywhere, this essentially what your asking for because players will want the same with ships...

I've voted 'no' because this is yet another proposal that gives players with high funds an advantage over beginners. And what happens when someone decides to buy up all the stocks of a particular module?
Not an issue, people with that much money are at Jameson memorial.

Traveling an hour to refit your ship for another job is no gameplay. It's a pain. Searching for modules, and storing them in the station you call home is gameplay. It's something that connects you to your environment.

Edit: Also I'm not asking for everything to be available everywhere. Just for being able to store stuff somewhere you bought elsewhere.

Ok I can see it would save a bit of time if you are swapping continually between load outs but as has already been said using a web site like eddb is very quick and extremely reliable.

Thats what I use when I'm rigging up a ship, it never fails.

Buy two of the same ship and store them already loaded out.

I guess You missed a point. Storage should be available anywhere. It should be like : dock at station, rent a magazine space, (weekly paid in same time intervals like PP) and store stuff you don't wanna use ATM, but it will be available ONLY in that station! No one staid about "magical storage available everywhere". Some players (like me) like to stick in 3-5 system, don't mission, pirating, mining, eve trading. But each time you want do anything else You have to go and search in several system for needed modules,or buy multiple of same ships, but equipped with certain "builds". But with storage you could buy module, transport in to your home station, when you are renting storage, and could easly retrofit you ship for stuff you wanna do atm without spending hours for finding it. Of course with storage they're should be same "sell penelty" as it is with ships.

That's fine if you're talking about the smaller ships but I use my Anaconda for fighting (build costs 350 million), exploration ( 275 million ) and trading (165 million )
I also have a Python which I use different builds on and an FdL which I like to experiment with different weapon loadouts.
I may be fairly well off but I can't afford to keep a ship for each type of build I want to use.

Another 2p's worth:

Storage will just tie you down - suddenly finding you've set up base 180 ly away you'll either be travelling to get stuff or to sell it!
Imagine buying an A5 scoop to facilitate getting your A7 one from somewhere else!

Or

You find yourself yearning after that exploration trip... think about going to pick up your old stuff but realise it's either obsolete (new bigger ship) or you now have 100 mil in the bank and simply don't care!

All these things happened to me having left things stored on various host ships.

Basically storage works for every Cmdr but for a short period of time (IMO).

Fair enough. That makes sense but I can guarantee that this would be just a stepping stone to what I described.

Yes. That's gameplay, too. It's called inventory management and is an essential part of so many games out there.

I would be happy with a 10% (or even more) loss on selling modules, if we had a storage option, and could transport them.
So yes, for me!

Also if super rich players could zoom around and 'buy out' all of the stock, that in theory would increase the demand for materials to manufacturer more!
Traders win. Rich dude just has a hanger full of stuff he'll now lose 10%(?) on. Lol

I don't think trading between players should be aloud.
Too much opportunity for exploitation.
"Here CMDR noob, have 20x A4 PA, worth 13mil! "
Noobs game ruined. Lol

if one is to look at this from a logic perspective, ship and module storage would be available for a price - as is the case in real life. transport services where people ship things from place to place would be available - as in real life. transport would take time - as in real life.
you could even let players take a role in some cargo transport for other players. the game auto-generates a mission which is around until whenever the NPC is scheduled to be available to pick it up. on requesting a transfer, perhaps you could specify a given transport company, or allow players to transport it (faster, but riskier)
