Store Problems

I do hope the Alpha testing is not going as badly as the new store shift over. The Elite Dangerous Store may look cleaner and more refined product but that belies inconsistencies and confusion that are apparent.

I will set aside the mailing/shipping address problems that the database migration has made. My problem is more about the mismatch of initial pledge reward and order processing that is poorly managed.

Looking at the interface it would be quite easy to assume you have not actually pledged anything. I made an initial £50 pledge for second round beta testing. The order looks like it is in stasis and looks like it will not go through until the money has processed. The money was taken several months ago from my paypal account. The order maintains that I have second round beta test but nothing else. There is no mention of lower order rewards or add ons.

There is now no way to update your package anymore. If I wished to get in on first round beta testing I have to make my initial pledge of £50 and another £50. wholly discriminatory due to the Alpha going online, yet the old kickstarter still has it listed as able to be backed.

My thinking (when I first made my order) was not to go in at Alpha stage because the private backers forum was already up and running and I would have very little say at that stage as to the wishes and the wants I would like included in the game.

I am at the stage where I can see what the Alpha looks like and I would like to get in at the first round beta stage but my hesitancy is being penalised. Not only that, I feel that most backers would be disappointed with the corporate hand over of what seemed to be a well designed hierarchy or pledge reward system to an iTunes store type of lost identity faceless machine that is only interested in selling and not after sales.

Don't be so money grabbing and allow me to up my ante.

You could argue that they'd be more 'money grabbing' by allowing people to upgrade to the alpha - they'd get more money overall I'm sure.

I agree though that the transition has been a bit 'meh' and I hope they'll put some work in this week to settle things down (this topic has been discussed to death since the switch-over).

Anyway, to be fair they did say upgrades will be locked after the 6th Dec (even though I can still upgrade my 2nd Beta to all expansions).

Emails sent about migration to new shop mentioned this. This is confusing, I agree, but we got warned about this. You should be able to log in into backer's app again to check your rewards.

On technical issues - as sysadmin I usually know that no one wants this. As it is third party shop outsourced by FD, I even suspect that company lacks skills to import different kind of databases. Nothing much FD could do about it, they already delayed launch for three days (or some even say week and a half). It was unfortunate, but as far as I have seen, they don't shy away from that, and solve these problems as they come.

One good thing is that people having physical rewards aren't that many, probably a fraction of 40k backers. That's manageable.

I don't fully got what do you mean here, but we were warned multiple times that backers won't be able to upgrade their packages anymore two weeks ago. There's nothing discriminatory about that, sooner or later backing system would be turned off. Everyone knew that.

My thinking (when I first made my order) was not to go in at Alpha stage because the private backers forum was already up and running and I would have very little say at that stage as to the wishes and the wants I would like included in the game.

So you admit that you hesitated and now regret that. How's that FD fault? Again, two weeks ago we got fair warning about this. In fact, general consensus in community was that Alpha access won't probably sold at all in preorder shop. So it should have given some idea what might come.

It is not money grabbing. FD warned months ago that at some point there will be cut off. They can't treat everyone with backers rewards, they will have to make money somehow. I backed game at 80 digital downloads pack tier, and never been happier about my decision. Yeah, some people say that now you can buy expansion pass for 35 pounds, however with 80 I also got second beta, sound track, book, and three ships with starting positions. If you ask me, that was very nice deal.

I am in second beta. I knew I will never go for alpha, despite the fact I suspected it will be high quality. "No NDA" stance was really a relief from FD side, and it took any stress off from me. I think we should enjoy the game we can see in videos and streams, and beta will come soon enough, you will see :)

I was not aware of any upgrade freeze due to not having any notification emails. I was not entirely on top of the developments day to day I have to say, but I'm not entirely sure many were aware of the implications consequences. No matter, my point is still sound as I may have not have bothered to back anything and paid exactly the same £100 now as then and got the first round beta anyway. Ultimately they have lost £50 I was willing to put to Frontier, & I have lost a months play with the beta. However, I have received a free bitter taste in my mouth.

I'm sorry if any one feels aggrevied by the change to the new store. It was announced in the newsletter and on a public update to the KS (http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1461411552/elite-dangerous/posts/676685). They also delayed the switchover at backers' request for a couple of further days.

KS exclusives are not exclusive if they can be purchased indefinitely and they have been available for nearly a year. I certainly didn't expect to be able to upgrade my backers level for so long after the KS.

Whatever level we backed I think the important thing is that we can now see that we're going to get a great game. I feel my faith in Frontier has been justified. (For the record I don't have alpha access but have been following the vids on youtube like everyone else.) Some backers of other games are not so fortunate.

When you pledged if you provided email, you were subscribed to Newsletter, which contained warning about cut off.
