Horizons Strange orb found on planet surface

Anybody know what this is? I was slowly making my way to Jaques Station and doing my first real bit of exploring in my python. I had been roaming various planets in my SRV when it's scanner picked this up. I thought it was the head of a sentinel from the x-men first of all lol. I'd been scouring various planets for materials for some time and then this was like totally out of the blue, but very much an enjoyable find. It had a data terminal but when I scanned it all that happened was I got a warning saying all connections open.[woah]

Without having seen the pictures I think what you found must be a crashed nav beacon.
They seem to crash quite frequently :).

Ah thanks Iskariot, though this was far outside the bubble. Regarding the .docx's it's the only way I could get an image to attach.

Some nasty things can get buried in those. You might be better off uploading screenshots to an external host, getting the URL, and then linking to them with using [.IMG]your.url.here[./IMG] tags without the dots.

Here you go stargazer, this is the backstory for the crashed nav beacon.
[h=2]Backstory for crashed nav beacons 700lys from Sol[/h]
My friend who is new to the game found a crashed nav beacon 700lys from sol and started to think maybe he had stumbled onto a secret. So i made this backstory for him, and you might like to use it too.

Probe backstory: In 3201 the Empire was locked in a civil war with a group of ungrateful rebels who did not agree with the Emperors enlightened rule. Probes were sent out all over the galaxy to find the rebels secret base which was said to be
hidden on an ice moon.
You have found one of these crashed probes and have scanned it for the data that it contains which you can hand in at an Empire base and receive payment.
Happy end to the story is that the rebels were defeated when their leader had his hands chopped off and then fell down a service well on a space station.

Thanks for the advice. I have removed the pics to be on the safe side as the other option sounded a bit complicated. Nice backstory someone had too but I think I like alternative dimension sentinel head myself;)

It's quite easy when you get the hang of it - even a numptie like me can do it.

go to postimage.org or another image host, click Choose Image, find the picture you want to upload from your pc, when it's uploaded you'll get a screen with a list of links, select Direct Link, copy that address, and when you post in the forums you can add that link to show the image using the code [.IMG]yourlinkgoeshere[./IMG] without the dots in front of the slashes.

Stargazer,
Is this what you mean, I found one the other week, but didnt recieve any data from it.

Two types,
the Picture above is a nav beacon (No data as far as I know)
the other type is a Data Point (Scan it with the SRV to retrieve the data, you get the message that the ports are now open)

I find these quite often during Skimmer destruction missions. They are usually guarded by one skimmer. They contain one Public datapoint which can be scanned either after or even without eliminating the skimmer. The payload generates an Intel package which can be submitted at a station along with bounties (this can take awhile since the Intel package must belong to a representative faction) not necessarily the one within the same system the crashed beacon is scanned).
