Strange signal

wow! It sounds like an industrial machine, like a crusher.

and the most curious thing is that if you go to the ends of the galaxy you hear more and more slowly: S

I honestly do not know if this is what I should listen to, it seems to me more a bug, because if I select any solar system it repeats the sound when I select it.

Tomorrow I will investigate more and will be a few tests, since what is curious to me is the noise that the antenna makes.

Yes, this is the signal you should listen to 😀
I think it is not a bug because it will repeat different sound if you select whrite system 😉 I've checked few other comms instalation and none of them have that kind of sounds. I've noticed that the signal is more intense when you look below or above galactic plan. Investigation continues.

I hope this is what we find. Remember to think in multiple dimensions.

I took a look at this, and I can confirm an odd Galaxy Map sound:
  • The sound only appears after scanning Josie Rosa with the data scanner.
  • It does not appear before scanning Josie Rosa.
  • It does not appear outside the instance.
  • It does not appear outside the system.
Further, I found that in the galaxy map, if you align your camera to the X-Z plane, you can hear an additional signal that sounds like a few different higher pitched tones. The direction you look in the plane doesn't seem to matter, but looking up or down will cause the extra tones to fade. The location of your cursor doesn't matter, you can hear the signal with your cursor anywhere in the galaxy. It is easier to hear if you move your cursor off of the system itself (removing the star noise). I jumped to some nearby systems, including a listening post, and none of them had anything like this.

I used the spectral analyzer on my phone, and found that this additional signal seems to have some structure.
  • Two sections of structure around 750 Hz and 1500 Hz.
  • Structures that look like bars.
  • Structures that look like dots - these have audible pitch variation and there seem to be 3 or 4 pitch levels.
I tried to reproduce these graphs on my desktop but I couldn't get images as clear as these:

I recorded a fair chunk of the signal audio, but it's super late here; I'll try to upload a sample tomorrow.

Strange signal can be heard near comms instalation Josie Rosa in Hip 63835.
To hear it you have to scan the installation with your data link scanner and then go to galactic map (volume up) . Intensity of signal change depends on how you move in the galactic map.
To me this signal sound very similar to to the signal from "Contact" movie whit Jodie Foster.
:alien:
hmmm Frontier have been known to embed secret messages inside signals. I think they did that with thargoid probes a long time ago.

I need to head over to try this.
I had just passed a Comms installation in one of the other systems checked over the past week, do other Comms installations do this also?

Why were Dredgers removed from the game? - They would be mighty handy cleaning up the derelicts from battles in almost all the Solar systems of the Bubble and elsewhere - As they process the materials - They could release containers of different mats or commodities in the USS of each system to enhance gameplay, - Pirates and system forces could be utilized as deterrents or enablers of this type of play - IMO, Fdev missed a bet with the removal of the Dredgers. - They are a scripted mechanic that requires very little resource management of the server.

One way to maybe confirm if the galaxy map feature is intended or a bug is by scanning similar installations that has some sort of known or written relation to something else in the galaxy? Maybe those can generate a sound near whatever it is referencing to, too? I'm way off on the other side of the galaxy so I can't jump in and check myself >.<

IMHO just one of the Audio bugs in the Game, which can continue to indefinitely loop some triggered event Audio FX if i.e. System/Galaxy Map is opened before that Audio FX has entirely completed playing.

Want to try something fun with the Audio?
  • make Hyperjump
  • during Hyperjump sequence, enter right Panel and open Squadrons Page
  • wait until you arrive in new system
  • enjoy your new Audio Scheme ;)

Yes, OBS locks my frame rate to 30 or 60 fps, depending on what mode I'm running Elite. It's a frustrating interaction with the OS window compositor. Disabling the compositor also disables vertical sync and results in the worst screen tearing I've ever seen.

So, yes, the audio timing looks frame dependent. It would be nice if FDev could confirm that this is a bug or not, in all their free time. =]

Falcon, I'll give that a try...

Yeah, imagine sitting in "Listening Post Mode" in a silent Ship, with Long-Range Scanners slowly panning around the Galaxy... and hearing something like this

(given how excellent the Audio Team is, something like in-game Audio Analysis and hinting to locations in such a manner should definitely be a thing)
