Strange Wake Solutions… The Mother of all grind.

So i have been scanning High Energy FSD Wakes literally for hours… hundreds of wakes and no data. Nothing! No Strange Wake Solutions or nothing else that matters.


I’ve been at busy stations, CG station in OP mode and latest place has been famine system with several Distribution Centres. No luck! No that i haven’t grinded before in other games, but this scanning is truly so boring, that is making me braindead


Is it possible that because “PS4 galaxy” is so young that average percentage of PS4 gamers doesn’t have modded FSD yet? Any thoughts about this?


Am i doing something wrong or is this really so hard? How about you guys? What is your experience regarding Strange Wake Solution scanning.

Strange Wake Solutions are used in the grade 3 FSD recipe yes?

My advice is to use a different recipe to unlock grade 4/5 and skip the strange wakes completely. You'll only need them momentarily, then they basically become useless for the rest of the game.
Check your data storage for Datamined Wake Exceptions, those are the ones you really want...

Lol! I'm afraid you'll have to persist in Wake scanning to get some Datamined Wakes for grade 5 rolls and Eccentric Hyperspace Trajectories for grade 4.
You're in the right place though. Distribution Centres in Famine systems are the best place to be, make sure you have a decent Wake scanner (go with the B, 3.5km). You can usually just park your ship in one spot and scan at least 3 out of the four ships that turn up. They'll pop up eventually.

ok Easy way to get those are you need to find a system that is in Famine Status and look for T9's coming in and out to drop off supplies there will be a lot of them, YOU can get the Datamined wake exceptions when they high wake out , and if you do it in a anarchy system, you can take out the T9's and get the Chemical Manipulators you also need for the G5 FSD

I would like to know how one knows where a distribution centre is? I spent a couple of Horus trying to find a famine system last night. I finally did, then spent another hour flying around - no distribution centre. Plenty of everything else, but no distribution centre. I heard a rumour the map search function was going to be changed to allow filtering for states - has this happened - I cant find it anywhere?

Famine state seems to be more common in the less developed systems on the edge of the bubble. You'll nearly always find a few near Deciat but you can't always guarantee they'll have a distribution centre to play in.

Arsenic can be found on Deciat F and D, I prefer D, it has a huge crater that's relatively flat for faster searching.

Chemical Manipulators can be found in unlimited supply in Okinura/Naptha Class Tanker. (just keep reloading your save until they spawn)

I like to add that in my experience i found all Famine systems with Distribution Centres in with Military and High-Tech Economies. Don't know if this is just a coincidence...? And it have to be in 1000ls range to appear in your radar

Ok thank you! But did you read all the posts before you gave this tip Cmdr? I have been in Famine status systems and one with many Distribution Centres You must be an truly lucky man if you say it's easy In my experience it takes long time and quite a bunch scans.

Everything takes time, and there is no way around that, i found it the easiest way to get what I needed because of the greatest concentration of large ships like t9's where the percentage is better for that type of wake data. There is no easymode to this game, just information shared to help in the fight to make it easier than with none at all.

I think that one verry efficient way to have right kind of wake is to be in same wing with other Cmdr who has modded FSD and scan the wakes he/she makes If you are lucky enough to know one who has grade 5 FSD

I know this verry well Cmdr. If you read my third #3 post there was this sentence "Nothing comes easily" C'mon! No one has said that his game is easy in this thread. Only one who has referred word "easy" was you mate

You don't get wake data from other CMDRs if i recall correctly.
On another note. i've probably erased more than 300 strange wake solutions while scanning for datamined wake exceptions. these are even worse

I agree. Based on my observations the "drop-rate" of Datamined Wake exceptions is 1%-3% ... regardless where you scan.
