Stretch - triple monitors

Please, is there some way how to better render picture on the left and right monitor in 3 monitors setup???
I read a lot of threads, but I did not found any solution ...

Is Frontier working on proper 3 monitors support?? Thank you very much.

Problem is, that we do not have monitors in line, we need some settings to get left and right view for side monitors. We need to say (in game settings), in which angle the side monitors are to the front monitor.

EDIT: we ask Frontier to implement Nvidia's Simultaneous Multi-Projection technology which fix this issue. Thank you!

Nope, it winds me up too.

There is some software I think you can get aimed at projectors and so-on that will do some post rendering shenanigans, but that's it.

You can, if you have the space, move the outer monitors' outer edges away from you and it will sort of seem to correct, in the same way an advert on a cricket pitch corrects, or if you are of an artistic persuasion, the skull in The Ambassadors by Holbein the Younger appears correctly if viewed from the right.

I'd be happy to pay more for three POV 'cameras' I could use to project each monitor properly.

There is no support in general in all games for triple monitor setups. All games seem to render to around 21.9 correctly. Which is around 80mm each side into the beginning of the flanking monitors. And the rest is stretched out by the nvidia and and software.
I learnt this information from Jayztwoents.

Hi,

I looked at this a while ago, it is quite offputting isn't it!

What you have to remember is that the 'FOV' slider sets the vertical angle of view. That is usually around 75 degrees or so.
With wide monitors, the horizontal field of view is then nearly 180 degrees.

If you imagine having your face close enough to the screen to have nearly 90 degrees between the top and bottom, then you will see the edges out of the corner of your eye a lot farther away, so they will look almost normal. You will need to be quite close to the screen however... ;)

Sadly Frontier seems to not want to properly support 3x1 setups. I also run a triple monitor setup (as most player here do) and the distortion on the sides has always driven me crazy.

If you're running a projector setup (which very few players do, such as simpit.nz or Cobra Dome) these frequently come with software which will allow you to modify the projection matrix with a UV coordinate grid and you can manually... laboriously... correct this distortion out of the display. Sadly I have been unable to find a 3rd party software package which will facilitate this for 3x1 monitor setups.

The only success I've had with reducing this slightly is by running ReShade and utilizing a cubic lens distortion overlay which has pulled in the far edges ever so slightly... So not really sure it's worth going through the headache of installing and mastering the ReShade pipelines for such a small benefit (thought it will make your game look stunning :) )

In the end, we would need Frontier to actually sit down and explicitly address this problem, or hope that a 3rd party developer creates a utility for gamers who frequently run this setup to correct for this. It would effectively be a graphics injector / post processing render pass.

Wish I had better news :/

As far as I'm concerned this should be logged as an official bug. Perhaps it already is?

Personally... I find that if I am looking at the center(centre for the UK folks) monitor the side monitors magnification works really well for my peripheral vision. Until I read some threads like this one, I thought FD did it this way on purpose.

I've been doing triple monitors since day 1 and I love it. I would like to buy some newer monitors with smaller bezels though.

I don't follow Victore, sorry.

Do you have the cockpit display across several monitors? If so the game will just display the galaxy map across the same scree real estate. As far as I know that's pretty much it.

I'd love for there to be things you could play with if you had more than one monitor, this would be another.

Sell all 3 monitor's buy a used cheap one and an Oculus rift. My best advice as I've already tried to do what your trying to do.

3 screen is like SLI. Enough people do it that you will see the occasional complaint, but not enough people do it for the devs to care. It's like that for all devs, not just FD.

Nvidia released something maybe a year ago that was supposed to enable the devs to fix this, but IIRC, it was too laborious to be worth their time. I can't remember what it's called. It wasn't surround or 3d vision.

Personally, the stretching doesn't bother me. I actually prefer it that way. If you're using triple monitors, you likely have them curving around you somewhat (mine are in a cockpit setup). The stretching helps get the right perspective for your peripheral vision, rather than creating an odd "fisheye" sort of wider-than-normal view.

I have both, and I almost never use the Oculus. Instead, I picked up a Tobii 4C eye tracker to make up for the one real advantage the Oculus has over a conventional monitor. It's neat to play with an Oculus on occasion, but it simply doesn't have the same detail or comfort that a conventional display provides. Perhaps a future generation will bridge the gap, but it's not there yet.

Yes, this is it, Simultaneous Multi-Projection implemented. Frontier, PLEASE! :) There are already games on the market with this technology implemented.

I have the game running across all three monitors and when I bring up the Galaxy map the UI interface is split between two of the monitors and it makes it hard to use.

Perhaps if we can turn this into some kind of mega-thread FD might get interested? Is there a way to provoke the PvP and PvE crowd into arguing over triple monitors? ;)

Like a lot of people, I'd actually lay down hard cash to impliment SMP in Elite. If FD are put off by the cost, allow us to foot the bill as an optional extra in the Frontier store. Free for lifetime pass holders, naturally... :D
