Strikes me as funny that ship theft would be news.

One week from now:

"Mr thief is being admitted to hospital for mental health issues."

Story over, never hear about anything related to this ever again.

Want my proof? See: Basically every Galnet from last 6 months, especially that one about the cult and the nuke. That event alone sets the severity and gravity of FDev storytelling. 3305 is literally the depiction of where Groening and co will take the Simpsons.

Yes, I know that currently, there is no way to steal a ship in the game, but that never made me think that it didn't happen in the Elite Dangerous universe lore. It just strikes me as funny that a worker stealing a ships in making galactic news. For Frontier to suggest that ships are never stolen by writing these articles is laughable.

I too thought this to be a rather intriguing addition to galnet news when it came out... My mind did wonder...

It’s Raxxla.

Said ship thief had disturbed sleep and was caught gazing into the depths of space by his wife.

My wife caught me doing the exact same the other night....

Definitely Raxxla. -nods knowingly-

Spacelegs being foreshadowed.
Same with the personal computer on your arm story a few months back.

How about this : Ships cost a lot, so the security is tight. You might think having a space ship is common, because we all have one, or several, but we are the 1%.

To the common people, land locked as they are, stealing a spaceship is like stealing a jumbo jet. It'll make the news.
Nah, look at the value spread on ships. Consider what your NPC crew makes, easily enough to buy a decent ship.

If it were about the value of the stolen ship, the ship type would be in the headline, you'd think: "Stolen Cutter! Stolen Anaconda!"

The way it's presented ATM makes it seem like ship theft is nearly non-existent.

It would be fun if we could steal ships.
