Strip Mining or Selective Mining??

Hi All,

I was wondering what kind of mining you do??
Strip mining or Selective mining???
Which do you like the most, and for what reasons you do it.

selective mining. hunting for asteroids is a bit like hunting for bounties or earth-likes, when you have 4-5 active collector limpets per medium mining laser and the maximum of mining laser your power distributor can sustain :)

Depends on the mission requirement. I only mine when necessary, usually to satisfy some Engineer request or another. One Engineer required CMDRs to refine 500 tons of ore . . . any ore . . . so in that case strip-mining was the answer using just collector limpets. In another case an Engineer required 50 tons of Painite. I was not going to refine several hundreds or thousands of tons of relatively worthless ores to find 50 tons of Painite so selective mining, using prospector (and collector) limpets was indicated. BTW, ignore asteroid fields, IMO planetary rings are much more productive and remember, prospector limpets double your ore yield.

There is just way too much worthless ore compared to ones you need to mine. You need to be very picky. It's faster and more profitable.

I used to think so, then I outfit a vette with a daft amount of collecters, I can strip half a dozen rocks in the time it takes me to prospect a good one. Even just selling that junk is more profitable than spending hours looking for the good stuff. I find a good balance is just dumping unwanteds and carrying on. Gives me a better average price per hold full :) Personal taste of course.

Depends on the ship...

Big ships (Anaconda, T9, Cutter, Vette) i will strip-mine otherwise it takes hours to fill the hold

Smaller Ships (Python/Clipper and below) I selective mine

I do selective mining.

I've tried strip mining in the past. Of course, you fill your hold up quicker....with rubbish! My losses were terrible! My Space Cow wouldn't talk to me for a week! I never tried it again :)
