Strong signal... jump in, watch a sec, and booom!

Hi there! Long time ago last time I posted something... but yesternight I came to a little conclusion.

Before getting to the point, here's what happened (not a moaning thread of course).

I thought, hey, let's get out and try the new mining system... well "new", it's a few weeks or month old now, but I never used the mining-catch-container-limpets thingie...

So here we go... but hey wait... didn't flown since 2 good month (sorry guys, went busy learning to play drums instead ... hell that's amazing.. and... ok, back to story...). So, I didn't flown under elite since 2 month, so I thought it wouldn't be a good idea to get out in the anaconda... it would cost me 10M assurance if I get killed and I have only 15M left.... no, let's get the Pyhton in my hangar instead. 4M is less than 10M ^^

I refit the python for mining, with the 2 (for me -> ) "new" modules, one prospector and one collector module (3 limpets capable each). What are they for and how does it works?!

I play in open, it's already very 'player' empty so lets add some slight adrenaline, if I cross real-player pirates, who knows...

Docked out of the station, I make a few jumps to find a system with belts... that was easy part.

Now I'm sure you're awaiting a thing like "guys, I forgot to charge limpets into the cargo", don't you?! Sorry to disapoint you, I got 20 limpets, a refinery too, well, all ready for mining. I shot into space around 10 limpets before understanding that the prospector needs to get shot out on an asteroid and not just anywhere into empty space (hey, where the patatoes are they all gone?!)... but honestly, bringing me the info of what's left and how much, is for me just a waste of a limpet. Note: prospector module, useless (for me!!!). Or did I missunderstood their use?!

Now how the collector worked was quite easy and well appreciated! Hell, shooting the rock, and the 3 limpets bring 'em all into the cargo... errrr, once open I forgot to tell :)

I took 700seconds-life collector module, as lasy as I am ^^

Now, I went mining around over at least a full hour... some palladium, gold, silver, ..... pretty sure I'd come to a +200k profit (not much I agree, but it was my first mining experience).

Now I read somewhere that Painin-I-don't-remember-the name thingie, which is most valuable at mining, would be found only in Strong USS.... mining finished, heading back home, and came acress a strong USS... hmmmm....... ok why not, let's see if there is any into it, then let's drive back home and stop!

I popped out of SC..... WAHOOOOOOO a lot of Gold canisters floating around, totaly unexpected, but welcomed :) open cargo, launch collector limpets.....

*pop*
*pop*
*pop* *pop*
*pop* *pop*
*pop* *pop*

I don't know how much, but the radar suddenly revealed 6? 8 popping ships?!

Ok, just let the time for the 3 limpets to get me at least 3 canisters, already fly away from the popped ships..... I had 2 shield modules installed, in case of such a welcome crowd... and well.... don't know where to start explaining.... after 2 seconds popping, they started to shoot immediately, the 3rd seconds my shield went down, the 4th, the BUY BACK YOUR SHIP screen appeared... WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA !!!!!!!!!

I used a shield cell (too late anyway), retracted the cargo and wanted to start jumping out but all went far too fast! Couldn't even tell which ships where there!

4M gone, 2 hours of gameplay too... well, lesson learned: it pops, you jump in the second! I don't know what would have happened if I were in my anaconda ( 4 or 5 shield modules on it!!!), but I'd be dead too I guess ^^

Now here my point: if would be of a great help, to change the indicators on the radar... at least, knowing at first sight if they are BIG ships or tiny ones... might help ^^ what do you think?! :D

All that shines, is not gold!

You got a python, and didn't know that was a trap?

Painite isn't found in SSS or USS, it's found in rocks, just like metals.

lol you must be right :)

Well, the time I found gold in uss, never ever any pirate show up... here they just popped and make my ship blink as does a christmas tree :)

Anyway, that's not the theme... the radar could be way more representative... it's nearly useless, working as it works right now.

And thnx for the Painite info :) In the meantime I found out where to find insta-death ^^ :D

I've found that the Contact screen is the best way to tell what kind of opposition I'm facing in those ambushes.

Anaconda + Cobra + Eagle + Sidewinder? Ok, I'm ready to rock.

6× Vultures? Start charging the FSD :)

Painite used to only be found in SSS, either as bait, or in the holds of well guarded NPC transports.

I would not be at all surprised if you could still find it these ways, but now that it's minable, that's probably the easier way to get it.

Yeah, well. I'm running a 5 collector pirate setup. So I just pirated the pirates. Then I killed them - it was only 1 conda and 2 Vultures in the gold trap

As opposed to 6 vultures I have seen before (ran from that one real fast) - so lady luck was on my side.... or was it the trinkets I keep carrying around in my hold no matter the police scans?

Painite is in pristine metallic (not metal rich) rings these days by the way. Not in Strong SS.

Yeah the moment you drop in and see you've got company..start blowing on that FSD like grandma on that birthday cake at her 100th birthday. Get me the hell outta there!! :D

Yup fun fun fun. You are not the first and will not be the last. It's anything between 6-15 Vultures or 2 - 4 Anacondas with escorts.

I read the signal sources as:

Weak: Sidewinder - Viper level and above
Unidentified: Viper - Clipper level and above
Strong: Wing or ultimate combat ship level

Hasn't gone too far wrong yet.

It always suprises me how many people fall for the ol' can o' gold trick. I mean there's practically a new thread every day lol.

Protip: Don't enter strong signal sources unless you've got balls of steel or wingmates to back you up.

First time I entered one in my viper I just laughed. No cargo racks. I just looked at the lost profits and cried.
Then three anacondas show up, each with over a 300k bounty once KWSed. Yeah, there was no way I was leaving that paycheck alone.

Risky though. Did the same thing in my vulture, but that can't really reverse fast enough to kite all three. If you plan to solo them you really need good DPS, good evasive skills, SCBs etc.
Should be fairly easy to do in a wing though.

Tried to do it in my brand new (cough, D-rank, B-shield, 3xA booster) Python and-- Pft. I sat there for a few seconds, waiting for them. opened the cargo hat-- Boom.
Shields down in about two, three seconds tops. Hull strength just hit 60% and is dropping fast under combined frag and multicannon fire from three flipping condas.
Attempted to boost out only to see thrusters malfunction. Insurance? What's that?
Absolute. Bloody. Panic.
Nothing else for it. FA off. Popped a heatsink. went silent.
Spamming the boost key and huzzah, my damaged thrusters start boosting about two seconds after they have malfunctioned.
Managed to escape with about 24% hull.
...I... haven't visted a SSS since. I've get my revenge one day.

Anyway, that's still on the side of exhilaration. The vulture wing instances are pure distilled terror unless you're winged up.
You see those vultures you just know you walked into the wrong neighbourhood.
Kinda like Harma. :/

Chaff. I love these SSSs on my courier. Keep the chaff blanket up and just hope there's not too many PAs. Collect the gold and bail!
.
Good fun.

My strong signal source method is a speed run though the canisters to see what the oppositions like. Already have your engines and throttle at max, another system selected in nav and your fingers poised over chaff, shield cell and hyperjump. Don't deploy weapons until you see whats in there.

Must admit, when those USS got change to SSS and WSS and etc etc I thought good riddance, so I jumped my trusty Asp into a SSS for the first time to see whats new

GOLD!!!!!!!!!!!! gold gold and more gold!!!
I've hit the jackpot, must be 60K of the stuff just waiting for a cargo scoop:cool:

Open scoop start the line up and "I cant believe that worked... go get him" popped up
3 ships appeared on the scanner.....

hahahaha I think a cobra and 2 sideys.... gonna pop them and get the gol oh *&%*&^$%&£$&$^& 3 anacondas!
And I'm heading at them at speed....:eek:
Ok ok, lets do things here, first, switch the alert status to "brown", set 4 pips to engines , close the cargo scoop and start the FSD charge
Hit the afterburners and plow through them while getting seriously toasted, cockpit blows out... gawd I'm history here.... nooo I dont wanna die... phew made it into SC

Bill

Made it to the nearest station for a repair and crashed into the landing pad:rolleyes:

You're absolutly right! Those evilevil pirates should really send a telegram before ambushing people.

Huh, cool. I did not know that.

I admit, in the first couple of days playing, I found some rare art freely floating and nobody jumped me. Of course, I had no idea how to sell it, and just earned some fines for my troubles.
