Stutter Stutter Stutter since 1.3 - near stations, asteroids, and pretty much anything that has a model and collision

So now I am wondering what the cause of this increased stuttering was, and found it odd that it appeared to be caused by an NPC, with a tenacious will to scan me, following me through the 'roids in a straight line. As soon as I engaged him, the pausing ceased.

Any thoughts?

For me it makes no difference whether NPCs are around or not.

I also have a lot of stutter. Tried many things. My most current "experiment" is to activate Vertical Sync and Frame Rate Limit 45. Works a little bit better, emphasise on "little". :p

Yea... i get a micro stutter, about every 10-15 seconds, that lasts about 2 seconds. But it is micro and I can almost deal with that one. The 0.5 second pause or stop is very immersion breaking and occurs mainly in RES. Seems to be tied to NPC updates, netcode or something....

I am running experiments to try to find any setting that makes it less, but will only be doing one at a time, and slowly as I dont want to be constantly be restarting the game, i just wanna play.

Right now I have tested that physix set to CPU has no effect from the default (i think it is either "Auto" or "Both"). I have also tested adaptive power settings vs prefer maximum, and this also has no effect.

I will try something else next time I play... but honestly this has happened since 1.3 (1.2 was smooth) and I have since clean installed windows 10 (from 7) and this includes re-install of Elite and all drivers. I did not even save my keybinds.... was hoping a brand new wipe would be good.

Yep. Stuttering in stations for me. Feels like the game is having an epileptic fit.

High end end machines seem to be affected the most from all my reading on this subject.

I never see any of this, when I go into a station I have never seen any stuttering, smooth as can be. I have seen some lag in systems that have allot of commanders there, but I have never seen stuttering in asteroid fields, or with outposts. Could it be that your settings are to high.. or maybe a driver update is not playing well. I noticed that majority of users complaining have Nvidia cards.

My system: i7 3770k overclocked to 4.4 Ghz, the video card is R9 290 4 Gigs, 16 Gigs of System Ram, SSD Hard drive

I do have a nvidia 970 (60fps sustained on high settings), but the stuttering mentioned occurs even on the bare lowest graphics settings.

So to be very clear, this occurs, regardless to graphics options chosen.

Can someone post a video of the stuttering they are seeing... not trying to difficult but I am not seeing this, I have seen some lag for sure.. but my experience with the stations have always been clean. I guess I need to sacrificial chicken to "Jubo" to keep that going.

I would like to know what soundcards use the commanders who observe little or no stutter. I play with the idea that soundcards could play a role in the stutter problem.

The consensus (in other threads) seems to be it is NVIDIA video cards that are to blame. I went from a two year old MSI AMD card with no issues to a brand new MSI GTX 970 NVIDIA card that has all sorts of stutter problems.

yes and no. Have found that stuttering is more infrequent but last longer. I thought it was most likely to do with my connection.

Hmmm....

970 here and my stuttering got unplayable only when 1.3 hit.

Stutter is gone here, only sometimes but my hardware is quite old and I'm quite far from the Server, so I can't complain, but overall 1.4 made everything smoother.

Oh, and the best part is, CQC is completely stutter-free, not a single frame drop.

i remain hopeful

I haven't tried CQC yet but from the screenshots I've seen, it's more or less the same kind of setup we could find in the core game, isn't it? If so, then Frontier would need to examine what is different in the 2 mode to try to determine what is causing the stutter in the main game...

I use soundblaster x-fi extreme gamer, pci-e
I have noticeable stutter, but it is better from 1.3 launch
Thanks for letting me know. I had the idea that a soundcard may be to blame, since most times stutter is related to overshooting and deaccelerating when near planets or stations. In these moments the sounds may be processed to illustrate the changing in speed and maybe some/most soundcards have hard times to keep up!?

I have heard many have this issue. I do not. My stutter is mainly in RES. My friend has worse stutter than I, but when he leaves inhabited space, everything smooths out.

There are various types of stutter.

Hmm, for me 1.3 removed stutters about completely, which 1.2 was having everywhere.

What comes to sound, USB headset (Corsair Raptor HS40)... Machine has actual soundcard, too - (a dozen years old, I think) Soundblaster of one or other breed from times long gone (5.1 or better sound stuff wasn't even heard of back when that card was made).

The game stutters when it has anything interesting to show.

Deep space - a few dots - it can manage.

Approach a planet - something to look at in SuperBoring, SillyCruise, what's it called?

HEY - something at the end of the journey to look at!

But you can't because the game is overloaded and you start jerking.

Would be interessting if this issue still exists in the currently beta!? Other question.. is it now a nvidia related issue or amd too?

I'm in contact with nvidia and it's addressed for investigation right now. I mean i have this since Gamma, so it seems to be a bigger problem they (FD) cant solve. It's really sad...
