Suggestion for avoiding "Elite not so dangerous" problem

Hi, I bought an Orca and I am having fun but only because of the money.

I can avoid any interdiction, probably because my combat rank is novice? Because if not, I do not sense danger. There is no risk, only payout. Since I started playing I never felt in danger except for the beginnings where my understanding of maneuvers was dangerously low and found myself drifting in collision with stuff.

I did long exploration trips, hauled valuables in anarchic systems, for fun I even did a passenger mission without shield and fuel scoop on a bathtube. 'twas a breeze.

Since I am not high combat rank it might be that the game is protecting me (c'mon, what's with this new gaming trend hold my hand daddy) nevertheless I suggest to make interdiction harder through maneuverability maluses (only during interdiction minigames) the larger your ship is. I want to earn that money and feel the adrenaline! Especially from assailant who wants to kill my VIP-rich person-general-scientist and alike passengers.

That might also improve the balance between say Dolphin and Orca.

Well you could just let the interdiction happen and explore the feeling of a rabbit being chased by a hawk. After a few mission failures with fines and ship rebuys, you'll be very happy to avoid interdictions.

I find that the better the thrusters, the easier it is to avoid being interdicted. Try a T7 or work up to a T9, avoiding interdictions can be a bit of a challenge.

I do passenger missions to relax and let my wounds heal. I don't want to go from my Corvette into my Beluga only to have to try to survive. My suggestion would be to take on a different profession if you want more heart pounding fun.

I agree that interdictions are really nothing more than an obnoxious inconvenience (thought about making a thread a couple of times about how NPCs wait until you're 5 seconds out from a station to interdict you, just so you'll over shoot or be teleported 30LS away if you submit, grr!)
But then again, I'm not too sure how they could be improved. The interdiction game already has overtones of RNG (if the target moves in a single direction, its speed will exceed that at which the game allows your ship to angle), and I'd hate to see this become more pronounced. If this aspect were removed, and the minigame were sped up substantially, I think it'd be an improvement overall and would make interdictions an actual threat, rather than the joke they are atm.

However, I'm really not behind the maneuverability malus based on ship size. If anything, the larger the ship, the less the malus, as the mass/inertia of the ship would be more difficult for the interdictor to overcome. I think the larger the interdictor the more difficult the game for the interdicted would a nice change; it'd give me a reason to consider running something higher than a 1A on my FDL.

I also think difficult interdictions would upset a percentage of the community who do cargo running to relax. As mentioned, if I want combat, I go to a CZ. If I want to run cargo, I want to run cargo, not get pulled from SC every 2 minutes because a dozen different pirates simply must have the 6 tonnes of fruit and veg I'm carrying (true story).
Perhaps a fix would be to add someone sort of inertial stabilizer module that lowers the difficulty when you're interdicted?

That's probably MOSTLY due to the fact that you only decelerate near the station, and that's the point where they catch up.

Once, I overshot by accident, but my terrible driving meant the NPC didn't have a rear facing on me to interdict, so I got in before he could come around. He jumped in on the station after me, and could only give me a dirty look inside the nofire zone. [big grin]

I think you get better interdictions with higher combat rank, though. So the solution, as always, is mass murder.

Call it tinfoil theory if you want, I see what I see. NPCs, obviously in range as I leave the star toward the station, obviously in range as I decelerate on approach, and yet bang on 2-3 seconds from dropping out, interdiction.

My combat rank is dangerous btw, and I've noticed no difference in the interdiction difficulty through the ranks. They're always laughably easy, on either side on the interdiction. And my HOTAS control is less than perfect.

Buy a Type 9 and revisit this thread.

I've started timing the submit so that I end up closer to the station - once interdicted you don't slow down, so with a bit of luck and good timing, you can drop out instantly really close to the station, faster than you could have controllably got that close normally.

I also think difficult interdictions would upset a percentage of the community who do cargo running to relax. As mentioned, if I want combat, I go to a CZ. Different perspectives, of course, but if I'm running cargo it's because I want to be interdicted on the trip to liven things up. If I want to relax I just use an empty hold.

Back in the previous games if you wanted to trade then you'd be intercepted, generally more than once per system, by pirates who needed destroying not just evading. Take an unarmed trade ship to any but the safest systems (far rarer than 'high security' are) and you would die. The pirates weren't difficult to beat especially once you'd got an upgraded ship, but you still had to make a token effort. (Indeed, there being no cargo scanner and cargo dropping on ship destruction in those games, you'd be intercepted and destroyed even if you didn't have cargo, just on the chance you might). Two years later I'm still not used to it...

6 tons of Fruit+Veg, you say? Well, I'll give it a go.

Another reason why I love my Dolphin so much, because, like its name sake, it's crazy agile to get away from interdictions.

then let us rename the game Elite Yoga if relaxation is so important. This game is not a job, do not blame Frontier or players who like a challenge if you play it as a job.. I agree with Ion Doncaster. why would a pirate attack a ship with not valuable cargo? The interdiction chance should weigh in those factors. The space should be dangerous
