[Suggestion]: Star Wars DLC for Elite: Dangerous

G'day guys,

As the title says. It'll really be amazing if we can see FD develop a Star Wars DLC for Elite: Dangerous. Sure, I may sound a little crazy at first. But when you look at it, the developers have included a lot of names and a commodity similar to of Star Wars (George Lucas Station, Azure milk and the upcoming Fisher's Rest station). This DLC probably won't be seen during 2.3 or so, due to FD working hard with the current versions of the game. However, it could line up with atmospheric landings, so we can see popular planets like Hoth, Kamino or even the Death Star (Coruscant has too many buildings though, which probably would be too complex to develop). There are a lot of ships in the Star Wars universe that can fit through the letterbox too, such as the Millennium Falcon, Tie Fighters, Republic Ships and Corvettes.

In terms of the galaxy in Star Wars, the one in Elite: Dangerous could be separate from the Star Wars DLC's Galaxy (to avoid exploits, bugs, etc). So it would really be awesome if FD can look into this suggestion. What do you guys think of the idea? Should FD consider working on a side DLC? :)

Two totally different IP's, and very different mechanics to the galaxy.

There are a lot of stations named after various sci fi and scientific/engineering contributors, to human history, not to mention politicians, and just people of note...

EG - Ridley Scott, Gene Rodenbery, Wankel, Beagle 2, Chernobyl, Gorbachov...

So we going to introduce Star Trek, too? And Alien?

Elite is Elite. Let each IP have it's world to itself.

Z...

Think about how much Frontier would have to pay to Disney for right to have Star wars on the game. I don't think Frontier would be able to make anything if they have to pay royalties to Disney.

But your in luck There is a online game that might float your boat called Star Wars Old Republic

Note that the names included in this game are either names of real people (not their characters in others IP) or things that are not solely attributable to an IP - i.e. no licensing required.

Won't happen.
Disney would bleed them dry and more importantly Elite is in its own universe with its own background fluff.
Also Star wars is not situated in our galaxy at all.
I also fear Disney and co might prefer to keep producing the same kind of garbage for games we have been seeing lately.

I always expected the Star Wars franchise to spawn some sort of Elite/Privateer type of game.
I feel that would have been hugely successful for sure.

Sadly it never happened. Instead the last decades we got mostly bucket loads of pure manure-like star wars games.
Promising titles got canceled and instead they produced some more manure for a few quick bucks.

Considering the strength and richness of the Star Wars IP, with a character like Han Solo, it should have produced at least one space sim trading/smuggle game. Only the gods know why that never happened.

And why they never made another X-wing/tie fighter is baffling too.

I have not played a star wars game in a decade I think. Very sad that it went down the hill this bad.
I can only hope that the new movies combined with the success of the spacesim franchise wakes someone up at the Disney HQ.

Aside from the George Lucas station in the Alliance! LOL https://eddb.io/station/15
Federal ships, especially the new Corvette remind me a lot of the Star Destroyers from the Empire. http://rpggamer.org/uploaded_images/Viceroy-Class-Star-Destroye.jpg

I always thought the Alliance should start putting out their own ships. Maybe Alliance ships could be knockoffs of the Millennium Falcon and TIE Fighters.

Funny.

George Lucas is not a character in Disney's IP - he's a real person - and things have been named after real people for a long time....

Most importantly, Elite takes place in the future of our galaxy, whereas Star Wars takes place a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away…

Look up intelectual property. It won't happen and that's a good thing - Elite has an original universe of it's own, and that's good - far too much sci fi is tangled in star wars or star trek in the name of brand recognition, last thing we need is ED's universe losing it's originality. Bad idea, sorry to say, and thankfully one that would be impossible to implement from both lore and legal standpoints.

I agree that a Han Solo smuggling game would have been awesome. I just don't understand what happened to Totally Games and their Star Wars games where did they go?! Xwing blew me away back in the day and the TIE came out and vastly improved on it. XW v TIE was disappointing with the emphasis on MP (a sign of things to come :( ) XWA was damn good and I thoroughly enjoyed it (although not as much as TIE). I recently picked up SW Battlefront in a sale and it looks very good, sounds very good, but has the awful MP based gameplay. Flight combat looks SO good and I imagine how remakes of XW and TIE would look with up to date graphics......it's a dream.

I agree with everything you said.
I played and immensely enjoyed the X-Wing / TIE-fighter franchise. TIE was my all-time favourite too.
I also loved XW v TIE because I build many missions for it and could fantasize about the Star Wars universe and immerse myself in it that way.
X-Wing Alliance was indeed a wonderful experience and could have led to so much more, but sadly it did not.
I bought my first joystick for X-Wing, a CH-stick. I still have all the games in their original boxes.

I looked forward to the new SW battlefront, but then I realized that they would shove the single player experience down the drain and I decided I would not waste money on it. I am not interested in multiplayer at all.

I am very happy and very grateful that FD managed to capture most of the space combat characteristics of the XW-TIE games. ED really has a smashing flight and combat model.
I do however miss being able to differentiate between front and aft shields like in the XW-TIE games. I think that would have added some cool strategic options to combat. FD did talk about that feature and I hope they will eventually implement it.

I think that you must have watched Rogue One! I know how you feel, Elite is an obvious choice for our brains to imagine how a Star Wars skin on the galaxy and ships might look. I think Disney has bigger plans for Star Wars than DLC on an established IP.

I'm hoping to see a full game reboot X-Wing VR announcement sometime in the near future.

As others have speculated, the cost of obtaining IP would likely make this not economic to do unless it was done near enough as a stand alone game to widen the appeal as much as possible.

I can think of a way it could be incorporated without breaking the Elite universe. They could simply refer to it as an ancient Earth story or similar and build around that. Maybe have a Star Wars theme park around a planet somewhere, where you can engage in Star Wars themed activities without it leaking into the universe as a whole.

Disney/EA could buy the basic galaxy simulation from FD and then build a Star Wars game in it.
I think FD has a top of the line and completely unique product here that can be easily adapted to the needs of a Star Wars game.

Ah..I'm reminiscing about the TIE defender (SO nice to get shields and not be in a glass cannon!) and the mission where you're betrayed by the Admiral going to the rebels......

Either way in the Elite engine or any other I WANT a new Star Wars Space Sim...

.... they'd need to ditch SuperCruise to remain canon with the SW galaxy.
