[Suggestion] Streaming Radio in Elite

I was exploring a lot lately and I made the journey more enjoyable by listening to streaming music. While it can be done with different radio or music apps, I think it would be great if there were some dedicated Elite radio stations within the game. Next to GalNet Audio this would be an excellent tool. Frontier themselves wouldn't even have to curate the stations. There are already some Elite radios out there like Lave Radio, Hutton Orbital Radio or the new Distant Radio 3305. All this would need is to have a radio button and a station selector and the game would just stream these stations.

On Xbox where I play, it can be done by listening to background music, but it needs a different app to be installed (like Spotify or TuneIn) and we need to manually manage the volume and muting the game music. It's a bit cumbersome and not even all stations are available from these apps. It would be much better if the game provided a simple button for radio and we could just listen to these excellent stations. I don't know if it has any kind of legal restrictions or obstacles but as far as I know these radios are not commercial stations (I may be wrong) and technically it wouldn't be a challenge, it's just a simple stream. In my experience streaming music while playing Elite doesn't degrade the online experience at all.

Enough few internet radio streaming in game (all platforms), like Euro truck simulator 2 (blue dune very, very, very boring).
Every player would be very happy I think.

I really like the solution in ETS2. It makes the game feel much more alive. Since there are dedicated Elite radios already, I'd love to see them fed into the game with a similar feature.

Greetings.

I'm all new to the game and I found this thread looking for a tutorial on how to play your own music on the GalNet HUD, simply because it didn't occur to me that this might not be implemented. I just took it for granted and thought I'm just too stupid to figure it out.

The point I'm trying to make is:
In a game that goes for maximum immersion, while at the same time having episodes of long, tedious and monotonous gameplay - how can there be NO ingame radio? How can there be no option to listen to your own playlist of space-trucker-music if the GalNetNews player is already implemented, play/pause-button and everything? This is madness!

Please, please can someone at Frontier have mercy and hack something together? I'm not asking for a sleek polished "sync with my IPhone"-monster. All I need is a folder somewhere buried in the gamefiles where I can drop my MP3s and I'll live happily ever after!

Fly safe, commanders!

PS: Hell, Frontier could even make money out of this by selling epic space music in the Frontier Store.

I would love this.

I used to listen to Sidewinder Radio when playing, but the most recent update to Elite keeps making Chrome crash if I try to run it in the background. I would love to be able to listen and have in-game controls so I can pause during a fight or whatever.

If you are on steam, there's a music player by steam, although clips seem to be restricted to a 9:41 minute playtime on my pc

Sure, I can always use a third party program like vlc player in the background and bind it to VA, but my point was that there already is a player built into the HUD of my ship that would allow for maximum immersion and coolness. Why not use it? :)

This would also potentially be useful in VR. Most audio players are non-spatial and equivalent to just wearing headphones. Something with the option to actually be spatial and take head position/rotation into account would be nice. i.e. Actually sound like it's coming from speakers in the cockpit.

I am a freak and wear over the ear headphones for the game, and then one ear bud with a podcast or music. Alternatively, I play music or a podcast out loud and put the over the ear headphones on when I get into a battle.

I wish there were more options for in-game stuff. It would be neat for them to contract some artists to make in-universe music
