Summer DLC Speculation 2023

The next Animal Pack should be about a large biome with low representation in PZ that also includes some well-known animals

Northern
  1. Wolverine
  2. Walrus
  3. Musk Ox
  4. Siberian Musk Deer
  5. Canadian Lynx
  6. American Black Bear
  7. Arctic Hare
  8. Snow Owl (E)

Highlands
  1. Gelada
  2. Ethiopian Wolf
  3. Markhor
  4. Golden Takin
  5. Wild Yak
  6. Spectacled Bear
  7. Vicuna
  8. Andean Condor (E)
Drylands
  1. Addax
  2. Spurred Tortoise
  3. Dromedary Camel
  4. Hamadryas Baboon
  5. Arabian Leopard
  6. Patagonian Mara
  7. Coyote
  8. Camel Spider (E)

What about a hemisphere theme?

Like, for example:

Southern Hemisphere animal pack
  1. Scarlet ibis
  2. Goodfellow's tree kangaroo
  3. Spectacled bear
  4. Spider monkey
  5. Tasmanian devil
  6. Howler monkey
  7. Black rhinoceros
  8. ? (WE/E)
Northern Hemisphere animal pack
  1. Wolverine
  2. Walrus
  3. Hamadryas baboon
  4. Blackbuck
  5. Collared peccary
  6. African spurred tortoise
  7. Secretary bird
  8. ? (WE/E)

The fact is the game needs an animal pack that can cover tropical regions of the world. All of them. Islands is great, for Southeast Asia, Madagascar, and Oceania, but completely leaves out SA. And SA is most important! So, at this point it has to be a pack that isn't biome or region related. And I can't think of anything marketable, that isn't obscurly niche.

The next pack is probably well underway in development. If Frontier goes based of of seasons, I'm guessing an arid theme pack to finally get the porcupine. I'd say in fall we'll get the devil, and in December we'll get the takin.

Hopefully animals from tropical places can make their way in. There's a reason why biodiversity increases as you get closer to the equator which happens to run through tropical rainforests and grasslands! 😫

Sorry for double posts, but I would go crazy over these! Frontier, take notes! 📝

I don't think "Drylands" will be a theme seeing as we got "Grasslands" already, and that kinda folds into the former. I do think we might get a "Desert" pack and they would include xeric, scrub and Mediterranean climates within that.

I'm trying to think of what I would prefer to see next, and it's a toss up between a "Desert Animals pack" and a "Forest Animals pack".

That's my thought. Drylands seems to vague and odd. It seems like the biome packs other than Wetlands are named after the actual biomes in game, so I'd expect Desert. I think it's the most likely pack idea so far for a Summer DLC. I'm hoping for a Woodlands/Forest like you said, I could see it being a Wetlands like exception. I'm hoping for these two back to back with mountains in December.

Maybe shrublands?

I feel like they sort of did that with the Tropical pack, with 2 from Asia, 2 from Africa and 1 from South America. But it really missed the points a pack like this should hit and that would have been to bring us more South American species, with an animal pack.

At any rate, having something Rainforest is tricky now, as is something with Savannahs. Tropics and Grasslands are close enough to those themes that we probably won't get something like this in the next packs. One could also say the Arctic pack represents the Tundra biome and I agree. Aquatic is also spoken for. Though not precisely marketed this way, the Twilight pack is a stealth Temperate pack. But because of how it was marketed, avoiding a biome distinction, I could see a more defined Temperate pack being released.

The biomes that do not have a corresponding pack at this point are deserts and taiga. If Drylands is meant for desert only we could definitely get something like that. Taiga would be a way to get some mountain animals in. Taiga doesn't equal mountains per se, but I think it could definitely cater to that. That's where I think a Highlands pack could come into play.

Honestly i still really hope we get an Rainforest animal pack in summer since tropical didnt really tick of to many boxes from what id wanted from such a pack.
Its probably not likely but i keep my hopes up.
Otherwise i cant also totally see them doing something cold climate related to contrast grasslands in winter

A pretty much copy theme twice in a row? I can't see that happening even this entire year to be honest. Likely we will see the opposite of the spectrum that may tie into summer themes. But like I mentioned to people on Reddit about the grasslands pack - join the club we all didn't get what we wanted

Every pack is going to have reskins, they are simply a lot easier to make than a unique rig. In the time it makes frontier to create one "unique" animal, they could probably make 4-5 reskins. Frontier trying to make an animal pack with 8 unique animals would probably be 4x times the cost of a normal DLC. The reskins aren't taking away slots from unique animals, they are just giving us additional choices on top of the unique ones they have the capacity to do.
The problem here though is that none of the picks are unique aside from tge sloth which'll probably be on looped animations anyway. The fossa is at least different in its behaviours to cats so I hope they give it some more fossa things like going down trees headfirst.

What do you mean other than wetlands? There's only been 2 and your saying that 1 of the 2 does something dosent mean it's gonna be that way.

Considering we have had 3 Walkthrough Exhibits now. What would other possible animals be for this? Are birds really the only option now?
Big box with looped animations?
  • Small primates that can be considered to small to work with the existing climbing mechanics like aye aye, tamarins, marmosets etc
  • Two toed sloth to please the realism people's
  • Ground habitat birds like sunbittern, kiwi, etc that can be considered to small for habitats. I know the kiwi inclusion here is very controversial
  • General small birds like Lorikeet, Kookaburra, turaco could work well here
  • rodents that could be too small for the habitat system
