Larger ships that require unloading/loading, the are NPC and player flown, not owned hired for large wing missions, mainly unarmed maybe just point defence, a signal of systems in Boom and a way to quickly react to BGS situations.
Maybe captained by persistent NPC's who you gain rep with and can call to your system when in need????
They use compressed cargo so dropping one block is worth 10-25tons when pirated.
Longer journeys for more chance of defending and attacking freighters.
Capitol ships style jumps from nav beacons again more time to defend etc.
These larger ships would give a system a feeling of being high wealth and also add more group play.
