Super low res/pixelated cockpit glare

So hey guys, I dunno if this is the proper place to post this, but I don't think it's a bug in the game per se, more like an interaction with my system.

So there's always been annoying to me while playing but not annoying enough to actually ask about it. It's this:

FB602CC17308E07AEE4F06484E7A522B4C92B46E

4AE570FFF0695AAFB4AB7FF475DCAE902C9F07A6

full size here and here

Look at that cockpit glare. Not only does it look super low res, but there's also this checkering to it, like it's corrupted or something. Again, I've never thought much of it, but today I was asking on the Steam forums and apparently it is *not* normal to have this.

Here's the kicker though-- I've had it with a 650 on normal settings and a 1060 on ultra settings. I've gone through formats, uninstalls, a million driver versions, and it's always looked like that to me.

So, is anyone graphic-savvy able to point out what could I do to improve the quality on my scratches/glare? It's always been super annoying, and hearing it's possibly fixable is super exciting for me.

Those are scratches on your "windshield", the outer glass is scratched by space dust particles and stuff. I don't see anything wrong in this screenshots..

EDIT:

IIRC, turning "special effects" option to OFF will remove this but lots of other things will be gone too.

Smallish it doesn't look like a huge deal, but if you click the link and blow the picture to fullscreen it's more noticeable. The low reziness doesn't bother me so much as the fact that it looks like it's missing squares all over it, like badly compressed or something

Repair your ship to 100% and it will be gone. It's wear and tear (scratches on windscreen).

Don't really want to *fix* it, I want it to not look terrible (if possible).

Does it look like this to you guys? I mean, if it's just how the game it's made and no way around it then I guess there's no way around it.

I'm looking at it on a 50" screen (larger image) and I see absolutely nothing wrong with it. The fact that you think you have a "windscreen" tells me it's doing its job of creating that visual impression. Resolution is fine.

O...kay then, I guess it's how it just is. Bummer.

Obviously I'm going to assume there's some kind of transparent material in front of me if I see a reflection on it, it just looks very low res compared to the rest of the elements in the screen. Hell, even the frosting effect when popping a sink looks more defined than the glare. I mean, it's not a huge deal, but I had hopes to be able to bump it up and make it look at least not like it's missing chunks all over. But anyway, thanks for the help, everyone.

I'd like to have an option at a station to remove scratches/blemish on the cockpit window.

Overtime it could return such as how a paintjob gets worn out.

I'd need to double-check in-game, but that looks worse than I remember on my GTX 980Ti system. I have a 4K monitor, so it's possible that the game is using a higher res bitmap on high res displays.

It sounds like your problem isn't related to in-game settings. Try going to the NVidia Control Panel / Manage 3D Settings page and scroll down to Texture filtering - Quality. I have mine set to High quality. If you are using one of the "performance" settings, that might be your problem.

Normal installations of the NVidia drivers usually preserve previous settings, so a driver install wouldn't normally change this setting and your problem could persist with new drivers. Also, I've had cases (in the past) where the settings aren't completely preserved and my tweaked "highest quality settings" have been reset to "performance" settings. I now always verify my video driver settings whenever I install NVidia drivers.

Dirty canopy. That's been complained about since Beta, but FD has been militantly apathetic about doing anything about it.

Some people like it, some don't. You'd think it wouldn't be that difficult to make a toggle for it, and be done with the complaints.

OP is right, sometimes when the sun is directly in front of you the front canopy turns to a checkerboard. Can't tell about 50" monitors because I play in VR but when it appears it's distracting AF.

Some sort of bad texture placement, hope it's fixed by tuesday.

Somewhere buried deep into this forum, there is a solution how to remove this specific effect. Some option in graphic configuration files. Help?
