Supercruise assist dropping out at any speed

I've done it a few times to be sure. If I turn on the supercruise assist and max-speed my ship then when I am nearly there I activate the assist by putting speed onto 75%. My speed can be 5c or something and the assist will drop out safely at my destination. Is this a bug? I'm now able to drop out at any speed

I must try this. :)

Doesn't work on planets though. Kinda jump-scary approaching a planet at full speed in VR and turning on the sc-a with 3 seconds to go and the engines revving up full to try and slow you down in time, and failing. BAM! Planet in the face.

To be fair, it is possible to do this* manually as well, but you have to be very very very quick to react to the "safe to disengage" message and most of the time you'll overshoot it.

*what OP said.

The other day I was coming into a res site at a stupidly shallow angle, maybe 0.5degrees below asteroid field, in sc-a, and when it dropped out the asteroids were still flying by at 1000mph, but I was stationary. Disorientating, but spectacular. The only asteroids that were the same speed as me were ones that could be mined.
