Supercruise Assist On/Off button please!

Additionally, a warning about how it doesn't work when you super cruise to a planet side base, as it just slams you into the planet. (the base is more than 1Mm from where you intersect the planet. :(
And, for crying out loud, I want the planet BELOW not above when orbiting.

Well we already know it doesn't take planets into consideration when being used, and it's not autodock, it's auto-cruise, don't take your hands off the steering wheel, it will go into orbit if you target the planet and not the base though, so there's that option instead!

When I target a surface base and it's on the far side of the planet, my ship goes into orbit. It's only orbital stations that it wants to drive me directly through the planet for...

Additionally, when it is on auto about 30 seconds out I want to turn off auto so I can scan, and it locks the throttle at full and slams me into the planet, no steering, no throttle allowed. :( (regular drive) I've done this twice today, the second because I thought I hit the wrong key or something the first time... nope.
e.g. I put supercruise assist on, wait until I am ~30-40 seconds out, hit one, cancel the assist, bang controls locked, slam into planet.

Really no steering if I can remember which dust covered ship my one SCA is fitted to I will have to check that out as I don’t remember it not letting me steer back when I gave it up as a waste of a slot.

"Hit one", the 1 key? Is that bound to the throttle? Is that how you are exiting, by changing throttle? Try hitting zero throttle if 1 isn't bound to the zero throttle setting.

SCA is cruise control, not auto-drive. Treat it as such, and you won't run into anything.

I nearly pancaked
You can't die from an emergency FSD drop can you??
Once I had the FCO drive going well over 1000c and slapped a planetary ring, the dropout was almost as jarring as getting pushed away by the thargoid titan, and it dealt a good amount of hull damage comparatively to usually losing 1-2%... I can't recall exactly how much I lost but it was a good 40% or more. I mean you'd have to be really goosing it into a planet to die, and also be in a weak ship.

edit ps: you can cancel the supercruise assist with a throttle hotkey

I think my issue with the auto is that people try out the SCA, see how it locks your throttle, then put it away as an ankle-breaking crutch. Then they miss out on the glory of the emergency drop trick, and the pants-pooping action of exiting supercruise INSIDE a station.
how do I do this???Can I drop in right to the pad?

Zooooooooooooom Poof CRUNCH

Yeah, hence this thread. Actual cruise controls have at least two ways of deactivating them without having to go into a menu.
You can configure SCA so that if throttle is set to 0 it will travel towards your target and drop to a crawl if it comes closer and the target is behind something else.

as in the default binding to bring up the panel on the left where you pick your target and activate/deactivate SCA.

...

No you can not, or I cannot.
That's why I want a button to do it, hitting my normal key (X) to stop thrusting forward would be fine, but it doesn't do anything, nor do any of the keys I've define for certain % throttle.

AFAIK, it's been much discussed over the years, and some think that the binding is missing as it would make botting the ship flight in game easier.

Personally no idea, but I wouldn't mind a binding for it.
