Superpower ranking takes far too long.

FOR THE LOVE OF GOD READ THROUGH THE THREAD BEFORE COMMENTING.
We keep going over things we've already been over many times, read through the thread and familiarize yourself with the arguments people have put forward for and against this idea.

It's not the UA/UP thread, it doesn't have hundreds upon hundreds of pages so you have no excuse not to.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
As the title states, ranking up in either federation or empire takes absolutely far too long.
Before anyone comes running their mouth about how I'm just "a casual gamer complaining as usual" or "I shouldn't expect to have content just dropped in my lap". I'll have you know I have a shameful amount of hours in ED so I'm definitely not a "casual gamer" and I'm not asking to have content handed to me on a silver platter, but you have to admit the time it takes to rank up is far too long.
I'm no stranger to having to earn ships in ED, I worked my ass off to afford an Anaconda and it was worth the time. I then worked my ass off again to be able to even AFFORD to buy and outfit a Corvette/Cutter, so why should I have to work my ass off AGAIN just to be given the privilege of being able to hit the 'buy' button? It doesn't make sense, the progress in this game is slowed down by so many walls it's ridiculous, from late game ships to the engineers mods (which granted they are fixing in a later patch).
I wouldn't be so opposed to be putting behind a rank wall for buying ships if each mission gave me more than 0.5-1% increase. I've run about 20 missions now and I'm only 7% towards the next rank and I'm still only at Lieutenant and Master for Feds and Empire. It's going to take me a year or more if I want to even get NEAR to being able to buy a corvette and cutter at my current rate of play and I'm sorry, but even though I really like this game, that's time I'm just not willing to put into one game. EDIT: I was at those ranks before 1.6/2.1 hit, I was able to rank up much easier before those updates.
I really hope FD increase the rate of rank progression because at this rate I'm just put off from ever trying to rank up.
Oh and one last thing before I finish this, before anyone says "you should just stop trying to grind ranks and just continue your usual play, it'll come eventually". That is an utterly ridiculous argument because #1 that will make it take even longer and #2 I almost NEVER do missions in my normal play because I have no real reason to other than the occasional trade grind from sothis/ceos.
You are absolut right
I have promised my friends that i get a cutter until christmas. I think i can't. I have spend 20 hours of running missions for empire just to get from 34% marquis to 39% marquis.
I have mostly nice 4 hours a day to play. maybe 20 hours a week, for 5%??? So i need consequent 12 WEEKS nothing else than missioning to get a cutter [wacko]
sometimes i wanna do other things or don't have the time to play. I'm not sure if i can make it until christmas.....
I know right? I don't want to have to spend 24/7 in ED just to be able to get some ships I want. I've already had to spend hours and hours of time getting the funds to afford the ship so I don't think it's fair to ask players to spend a further few months of solid play to gain ranks to be able to buy them.
I'm finding it hard to lower my Empire rank fast enough.
I'm chasing Hostile, but I've only got as far as unfriendly.
You're saved: FD have already announced a major overhaul of the military rank progression this year. Players will be able to take dedicated'military' missions. Not really any other details available.
You are not entitled to those ships. You have to work for them.
Could the ranking system use an overhaul? Yes, but it does not need to require less time.
I never said I was "entitled" to those ships, infact I covered that in my main post. I also half covered it in that comment by saying that I've already had to earn the ships by spending hours upon hours working to get the funds to buy and outfit the ships. All I'm saying is that I don't want to have to spend 24/7 doing nothing but playing ED and mission grinding. And of course it needs to require less time, that's entirely the problem with it now. So pull your head out of your ass.
The ranking was fine in 1.0 and 1.1 versions of elite then it was impossible in 1.2 and after 1.3 its way too hard. Year has passed without any changes to the navy ranking. 2.1 made it even worse than it was before by making missions take longer to complete and other missions changes.
I remember a couple friends of mine talking how they should rank up fast before the new ships patch arrived.
They were telling truth about that.
I'm in the same boat as to rank up for the Cutter. It's going to take me a looooooong time by the new standards.
Again, hopefully, with something like a career path choice, investing your time *AND SKILL* in something specific should reward you better naval ascension.
And it shouldn't take that long, anyone that can or even WANTS to spend that long playing a single game just for one ship should really go outside.
Hell, I've been playing this game for 2 weeks straight due to unemployment and having nothing better to do other than job searching, and I'm already sick of it and looking for any excuse I can to get out of the house.
Thats just not what elite is.
Elite is ment to be a slow game.
You get paid the same money as a normal pilot would in the elite galaxy.
In elite you are not special , this is not some silly game aimed at kids.
You are just another cog in a series of unending cogs.
The game has no end , it has 10 year dev plan and might even go on longer than that , the goal of the game is to make a dynamic galaxy that feels like you are living in it.
If you are not invested in the game and want any reason to leave the house , then this is not the game for you or rather you are going to be flying an cobra or an ASP all your life.
And thats the cool part of the game , it makes a realistic ''has and has-not's'' not everyone can have a big ship.
And lets face it , most dont even have the skill to use a big ship as they tend to get blown up thinking that the ani or python are godships.
The game has allready had its bounty value increased way too much , it used to be that a good bounty was 1600 and no more , that was epic. and made ships like the viper MKIII have value.
Why is playing bad and going outside good?
Just being outside for the sack of it is stupid , I go out mostly for walks and meditation but not because of some tierd old idea that being a nerd is bad.
I have been playing sins 2014 , and even if the game has flaws (mostly how easy it is to get rich , how dumbed down docking has been made post beta and lack of SC/NS consistency)
And its the best spacesim I have ever played , I feel like a real pilot.
The nonsens of ''oh but think about real life'' is stupid because you cant know if someone is or not , the game is fine the way it is... hell it should go back to its prenuim beta ballance (but thats just me)
If you are sick of it , dont play it. I dont play games I dont like , I dont eat food I dont like , I dont hang out with people I dont like
So if I manage to play the game well when I have a job , and my own family to take care of , I think anyone can do it.
Being a geek/nerd is awesome and elite is all about that
People still go outside ?
I go out to meditate/walk or play airsoft otherwise... no , it a grind outside
No , you can play 3 hours a week or even 1 hour a week.
It will take you about a year , that was what we were promised and thats what we backed.
You dont get an F-22 because you worked 5mins for the army
;)
You are right that super power progression is far from perfect, but just decreasing rank requirements isn't the way to go. They should overhaul the complete naval career instead, which is something they want to do AFAIK.
On the Imperial side, 10716 and Babassi are gifts. Took me around 45 hours data running from Baron to Duke, tbh very acceptable.
Now try the Feds.
Tun is not nice, Tiano faction status None, Canopus in war
:rolleyes:
i am Admiral and a king took me 3months
Thats not what I was saying.
First of all , I dont think I am better than you in any way. just expressing my opinion
You are calling me an idiot for not being on the same page as you? why?
Of course you can criticize it , there are many issues with the game.
However , because I like the game the way it was promised to us I defend it.
I do what a massive overhaul of the military ranking systems as currently its not immersive , fun or even that interactive.
When you criticize something on a forum you are going to get counters , thats a conversation.
I understand that elite is slow , and many gamers hate how it can take years to get an anaconda , but thats how the game was advertised to us during its kickstarter. thats how the older games were.
That being said , I agree that the game has many issues.
Most of what are linked to immersion from my point of view.
And on a side note , aggresive insults towards another user is against the forum rules , I never said anything harmfull to you , never said you were wrong just expressed my opinion and expectations of the product I backed thats all.
If the game went full on casual (and I think there is a risk of that happening at some point) I will just leave , afterall the game has offered thousands of hours ; something 99% of games cant offer.
Sorry, I'm just so sick of the so-called hardcore fans of the game shouting down anyone who proposes any change to the game that makes things easier or more fun and then having a fit and threatening to leave the game if it goes ahead. It's unfortunately a very vocal minority compared to the majority of players (from what I've seen) who want things to change.
EDIT: also in your first comment you stated that the "what about real life" argument is nonsense. Why? The fact of the matter is a majority of people have jobs and don't have much time to spend grinding in ED and most don't want to be playing just ED for years on end to achieve a goal because they have limited playtime. If FD continue to pander to the minority of people who do nothing but play ED then they're shooting themselves in the foot and the game will be driven into the ground pretty quick.
The game "offers" thousands of hours simply because it's the way it is meant to be.
You have no shortcuts. You have to stare at the screen doing the hyperspace dance.
You even have to go on about deciding what to put on your ship in case you change your mind from what you were doing the other day.
Then there is the balancing issue. There are things that are just not fun to do. No matter how you view it.
Skill involved? Perfect. Game time just for the game time is not fun, unless you are admiring the screen.
Repetitive tasks that reward you very slowly (or, for that matter, randomly choosing for you what you may or may not get) are an issue.
Ranks were way easier to farm before the ships patch. I should have done it before. But I didn't because I was trading.
Got my billion credits then got a 6 month break.
I can't have it all. I admit that. But for some things in specific, like the ranking, things were more easy for some commanders than now.
Basically, with the new ranking system, FD devs are discriminating the new CMDRS who joined in after the patch.
Rumour has it that they are working on naval ascension careers. Props to that! I hope they do something about it and evolve the game grind that now is currently implemented.
so why should I have to work my ass off AGAIN just to be given the privilege of being able to hit the 'buy' button?
You actually say it there, it really is a Privilege. Its not about money, its about proving yourself worthy in the Eye of the Superpower. Getting your money isn't there highest priority.
