As with tritium CG the trick to get AI pirates to Leave you allone will remove the mined tag..
Ejecting cargo and then recollecting it will lose the mined tag for CG items. if you have other mined items types, eject them to get ride of pirates and then recollect them as there for bonus money and don't matter if they lose mined tag...

Too bad the top 10% don't get two of these lasers if Torval wins, and it looks like she will. A pair of these are about perfect on a mining Conda or Vette with two medium and two small mining lasers.

.. but why? medium mining lasers literally mine 3x as fast as small. Leave the smalls in the trash.

Neither proposed module is great -- you don't want your collectors to be far away from the fragments that come out -- but I do think Torval's laser is a little more interesting, because the abrasion blaster requires much better aim
The abrasion blaster is better. While the mining laser does not benefit at all from being long range due to how laser mining is done, the long range modification usually also increases shot speed. If this is the case, the new abrasion blaster should be easier to aim as you will not need to lead as much - thus countering exactly the weakness you refer to.

Not seeing many people in-system. Is it because it's only day 1?
How long ago..
Its mining, you don't need to drop in till your full... miners know not to get ganked in open…
Any pristine Metal rich or metallic ring will do... but RES sites are better... you don't want to mine in the target system the rings are not pristine status…

Gosh, people are jumping on conclusion without thinking. :D
Long range mod effect:
Doble range, no fall off, 15% higher power draw, +100% projectile speed ( non lasers only)

Mining laser with mod - range 1km, +15% power draw
Abrasion Blaster - range 1km, shot speed 1334m/s (unmoded 667m/s), +15 % power draw.

If you need to laser mine you need to be close for faster collection. Lance is still better for probing as it have 2km range.

Range is meaningless for abrasion blaster. However double shot speed means easier time hitting moving target.

IMHO, it is clear which of the two modules is somewhat useful and which one is complete trash. (Lances are already trash that do not worth the power play trouble)

Because Conda and Vette only have 2 medium hardpoints, but can easily power 4 mining lasers, so it's 2 medium, 2 small. The large and huge hardpoints are for self defense.

Nothing prevents you from putting size 2 on a large or even huge hardpoints. So even x3 2D are better than x2 2D + x2 1D.
I hate undersizing hardpoints, and as I wrote, the big guns are for self defense. The laser will go onto my material collecting Cobra IV though, I've dropped the mining Conda for the T10 a while ago and am now mining with three medium mining lasers.

If you optimize your mining build for PvE you are doing it wrong.

And I am sure you can deal with all PvE ships with 2 small hardpoints instead of 1 large.

I am sure a mining build with just one mining laser is better performing in PvE than same build with four mining lasers.

But what do I know?

A long range abrasion blaster does not make much sense.
You still need to be close enough to minimize the limpet travel time
And honestly, in my 50+ billions gained out of mining, i never ever felt the need of a long range abrasion blaster.
At the same time, i always unlocked Lances as soon as i was thinking to get into mining (that is on 3 accounts)

A Lance (less a long range mining laser) might be better, for probing and for ships with hardpoints in the back (conda, best example)
For example, on my Conda i use 2 medium mining lasers and a lance. The other small hardpoint is used by the abrasion blaster.

A long range medium mining laser would have been even better - i know we're getting a size one laser, maybe we get to unlock long range mining lasers of size 2 too?

Anyway, at a first glance, it seems to be rigged against Torval, but maybe i'm mistaken

It is not the range that is appealing but the shot speed.

Did you had a case where the rock is rotating and you have trouble hitting the chunk from moderate range, so you closed distance-changed angle risking a collision.
This is very common for me when core mining with python/krait(God forbid large ships for core mining).

Abrasion Blaster is not beam/laser weapon. It will get shot speed x2. This will make hitting moving targets easier.

Torval is winning though.

I might get the abrasion blaster for the increased projectile speed.
