Im here to present a suspect no one is talking about. We all saw holes in the base game raster and were suspicious about the lack of certain animals or representation. No marsupials, no polarbear, no african rhino, almost none southamerican animals, etc. But theres one weird exclusion and hole in the raster i have never heard mentioned, and its regarding the choices of antelopes.
Lets step back and analyse them for a secound:
What can we gather from this list?
We have:
And i just think thats really weird. I like all of the included species of antelopes, but why are we completly missing these nobrainer picks, like the common eland, greater kudu or a species of duiker or dik-dik, as all of them are more widespread and more distinct from the rest.
They would make the most sense for dlc animals from all the antelopes, as both big and small are easy to understand reasons to want the animals, especally the common eland stands out as a very common and iconic antelope, that has its niche in game right there left open, but isnt there.
The same goes for the northern species, as far as i know the addax and the scimitar horned onyx are the two most requested antelopes to still be added to the game, and probably more likely as they would fit well in a dessert or endangerd species pack.
But its just like, what about the rest? Both the large and small antelopes would be great to have and fitting animal for dlc, but what dlc? Aslong as we are not getting dlc about destinct regions in africa, for example a west africa or central africa pack, i dont really see were they could be included, which ngl makes me kinda sad.
At the same time i do really like all of the antelopes they included in the game already, even if choices like the nyala over the kudu or the inclusion of both the springbock and the thompsons gazelle are weird, i still do really like the animals.
So what do you think?
I just wanted to share my thoughts, as this has been brewing in my head for quite a while already and i just wanted to let it out and hear if im the only one crazy enough here to put so much thought into frontiers selection of african antelopes and how it kind of really doesnt make sense and kind of makes sense at the same time?
Its just confusing
Lets step back and analyse them for a secound:
- The black wildebeest, the largest antelope currently in the game (eventhough most people dont recognise them as antelopes), lives in the Savannah of south africa.
- The Bongo, a medium sized antelope that lives in the woodlands of central africa
- The Gemsbock, a medium to large sized Antelope, living in the desserts of southafrica
- The nyala, a medium sized Antelope, living in the savannahs and woodlands of southeast africa
- The sableantelope, a medium sized antelope, living in the savannahs of east africa
- The Springbock, a small to medium sized antelope that lives in the desserts and savannahs of south west africa
- And lastly the Thompsons Gazelle, a small to medium sized antelope that lives in the central area of east africa
What can we gather from this list?
We have:
- no true small antelopes like duikers or dik-diks, eventhough dik-diks were reportedly seen in a tester version along side american aligators before the game released
- no true large antelopes like the greater kudu or the common eland
- no antelopes from northern africa or the sahel, examples include the greater kudu, dama gazelle, scimitar horned onyx, the arabian onxy, addax or the hartebeest, just to name a few.
