Swap between controller and Hotas in game

Sorry if this has been covered before...

With Odyssey coming it occurred to me that as a current Hotas user, trying to control my commander on foot might be a little trickier than using a controller. To my knowledge, in order to swap from one to the other you have to log out and plug in/unplug the Hotas and log back in. When swapping from ship/SRV to foot and back again will not be seamless unless there is something I have missed.

is anyone aware of a solution or if this will be sorted before odyssey’s release?

This is true but from my experience it automatically sets whatever controller you plug in to its Default button binds.

I use a very custom set up on my Hotas and on my pad so doing the controller swap still requires a trip to the Options menu every time.

The console itself recognises both controllers plugged in at the same time, but ED doesn’t so I think the issue is on FDevs end.

I have customized hotas controls as well. It's basically essential because by default it's far to underutilized, and my controls load in fine each time.
As far as I can tell, custom control setups are unique to each xbox live profile.

It's not perfect though, there's a few seconds of extremely bad lag whenever a controller connects or disconnects on xbox. This should be smoothed out for odyssey if we will be switching from hotas to controller often (We better be. Being forced to use a hotas to run and gun on foot would be atrocious).

Oh wow I just posed this same question on another thread. I also want to know how good is the switch on using both. I have the elite Xbox controller with chat pad and headphones on it and would like to use the chat pad on that to chat but use a hotas.

thinking of getting hotas but I don’t know yet.

Currently a HOTAS as in a Logitech X-56 grey takes nothing away from the Keyboard and Mouse commands. ED recognizes them no matter what HOTAS you use.Try it out using a mouse for targeting fixed weapons. The Elite games has always been a keyboard, mouse, simple joystick game.

Will Odyessy mess this up? We'll see..

I have also been wondering about this and while testing using both in other xbox games I found that The Crew 2 works the way I hope FDev can make it work in Odessey. There both controllers work at the same time, I just had to remember to put the throttle back to center when I picked up the controller.

Up until now I am using a Logitech grey X56 for Horizons but just bought a Logitech F310 for possible simultaneous use with Odyssey after another Cmdr posted that he used a gamepad for the SRV buggy and his keyboard for the On Foot settings. I would also like to know if this can a feasible setup before I install the F310 and risk wrecking my present binds setup.

Hold the xbox home button turn off the controller you are using. A prompt will come up stating that your controller is disconnected. Hit any button on the controller you want to use. As far as chat goes I actually have a keyboard hooked up to my xbox as well which I can use to type.

o7 - I have a HOTAS and a USB XBOX controller plugged in directly to the PC but when I try to use the controller for walking around, it doesn't work.
Elite doesn't seem to recognise the controller at all as I cannot assign axis or button presses either.
I am using Joystick Gremlin for my HOTAS keybinds, not sure if that makes a difference?
Any help much appreciated.

I use a Thrustmaster T16000 HOTAS (PC) if I turn on my Xbox controller Elite defaults to the Xbox controller on Control, Ship and SRV. If I get back into my ship I have to go into settings and switch everything back to T16000 which is a pain because I have about 30 custom settings. I won't even get into the mess it causes Voice Attack. Until this is fixed I won't be using any Odyssey game play.
