Swap Offline Upkeep for Triple Elite

If Fdev want carriers difficult to own, instead of deleting player progress and assets. How about making them a reward for Triple Elite, I've always said carriers should be rank locked anyway.

It has nothing to do with difficulty, they just want a way to keep the ships from hanging around forever.

Joke's on them though, because I'm going to immediately bank a few years' worth of upkeep as soon as I buy one

With all those players out in Borann right now mining their guts out only to be told that their combat rank of competent now means they can't have one?

That is the most deliciously evil by thing I think I've seen anyone suggest. I salute you, there could be no greater gank.

Im not triple elite and i actually agree. This shouldnt just be something everyone can have. It should be something everyone can earn the ability to have but not just by spending a week mining. They should have played the game. They bought the ticket, they should ride the ride but they still got to wait in line for the ride like everyone else. If the FC is an endgame item as everyone keeps implying in their livestreams, what endgame level player isnt triple elite already? This just comes right back around to: 'get gud'.

If they had said that from the start I'd agree (well, of course I would

). The requirements have already been set now and the reaction from all those who suddenly can't have one would be pretty spectacular.

Actually I'd love that (triple Elite, not the other things) but it's easy for me to say that because I have the ranks.
It would've been nice to retrospectively see what would happened if FD lowered to costs and made it trE.
Just at the beginning, when the 5 billion was introduced. Not saying that out of spite but genuine curiosity.

Hmmm, So as well as the Gold Shiny Sticker for your ships, your grind to Elite in all three disciplines will really mean something!

Triple Elite, then you really have earned the End Game Content!

Sounds much more meaningful than someone mining for 4 weeks solid.

I see what you're saying but since they are only in beta, technically they're still not released. this is something they could implement because they are not their final version

I actually agree with you on the triple elite thing, but the screaming would be even worse than it is now.

But I thinkt the idea of decommisioning them is, as other have stated, to remove them from the game so they are not littering the galaxy.

I'm not convinced it would've been worse then what we got. That's why I'm sad it wasn't tested as announcement.

I don't have triple elite (nor single elite for that matter), but i still like the idea. It would make them a genuine end game achievement.

Honestly, the fact that because of long term tolerance of exploits, sanctioning of gold rushes, and other intentional economic inflation in elite, and some majory sissy design decisions by FDev, like capitulating to solo commanders wanting a SQUADRON CARRIER, carriers are missing their goals or maybe better described as falling short of their potential. IE they are not going to be an aspirational asset that takes a squadron to support, and when that squadron does get one they become a powerful force, and in their new implementation carriers do not interact with BGS / Powerplay, they don't have the same gravitas and powerprojection that a real world carrier group does.

A farragut was described in one of the official novels as being designed to intimidate an entire starsystem into submission to federal will, a carrier is physically bigger than a farragut / majestic interdictor, but instead of being this big powerful influential aspirational asset, carriers are more like a passenger ferry with a some shops onboard than a true carrier. And worse than that, as screenshots of system maps with hundreds of carriers in one system prove, instead of being this big powerful omen of military prowess, they are about to become as common place as sattelite dishes in a council estate, or using in game terms, as ubiquotous as elite anaconda NPC's spam interdicting you on a simple haulage mission run.

So using Big Maec's suggested threshold, I've got a carrier license, who wants to buy it off me?
