Swap Offline Upkeep for Triple Elite

My two credits:

They'll never tie anything beyond decal to triple Elite for one reason:

Combat Elite is their #1 retention tool for the game.
Not content.
Not cool things to do.
Not friends or community events.

The never-ending grind of combat rank. It's just like an upkeep mechanic...but it isn't. You'll just keep grinding away on it because, dammit, I don't want to be only elite in two things!

It is not a coincidence that your combat rank (rather than highest rank) is what shows in station UI and in your pilot profile when targeted. It mocks you always.

They'll never tie anything to it for fear they'd have to balance it when the greater community outcry drowns out the feature tied to it.

Is this the part where i'm supposed to say "But triple elite is easy peazy, mah! Can do it in 2 weeks mah!"

Well i'm not going to, because there is no win button for triple elite, you have to EARN it. Certainly won't get triple elite shooting rocks 10 hours a day!

You can't buy triple elite and you can't mine it

Not part of the main game though... Maybe you get a support ship if you grind CQC as well? ;)
It's the same principle though, with the same disadvantage. That everyone would need to play for months or years at CQC, or exploration, or trade, or combat.

How many longstanding players who currently intend buying a carrier do you think are explorer/trade elites but NOT combat (or CQC)? Well known in the community perhaps, and on fdev's community CM list for pre-releasing info and souces of community feedback, visits to fdev towers, etc?

Never happen ;-)

You have ground the credits, now you need to grind triple elite. The screaming would be incredible. I am not even triple Elite and I would find that hilarious. I am currently deadly, but think I am 60 something % of the way to Combat Elite. Already have Elite in Trade and Exploration.

I believe the op was suggesting triple elite instead of grinding credits and on going costs (maybe i misunderstood). But either way the screaming is/would be ear-splitting :)

Shooting Thargoid scouts all day with automated Turrets is a slight step up from mining, yes.

They actually shoot back.

It has nothing to do with difficulty, they just want a way to keep the ships from hanging around forever.

Joke's on them though, because I'm going to immediately bank a few years' worth of upkeep as soon as I buy one ;)
Just a heads up. If in fact the decommission mechanic is indeed to reduce server load... Frontier can change the upkeep rules without "consent".

What I am saying is that this plan players have may backfire.

Never grow too attached to anything in an online game. GM can take it away at any moment.

Sure, and this is going to be an issue with future income nerfs too. But FD has to weigh the risk of setting the community on fire again, they'll be riling up their most loyal players.

If anything, they'll back off of the decommissioning and come up with something else when they realize it isn't working. I think so at least, we'll see. I'll have enough to buy another one in any case.

Hmm. Interesting theory but I do have to ask why the ED community thinks, overall, they are different to other online communities?

In my opinion they aren't.

The one thing I have noticed is this constant threat of "But FD has to weigh the risk of setting the community on fire again". Honestly, Maybe Frontier should do just that. It happens every day in so many games and well, I'm going to make this point: The most successful games out there have development dictated by the devs', not the players.

Player-led "lobbying" is why we still have grandfathered modules. You should hear the laughter I get when I tell my MMO friends about that little balance decision once I explain that it means we have players holding powerful gear that can no longer be obtained. In any other game that gear would have been scrapped, no debate.

I'm Triple Elite on every platform, but I still think this would be a bad idea.

FC should not be a status symbol or a reward. They should be a tool and a gateway to new interesting game play. Let's hope Frontier remembers out how to make interesting game play!

Well, I'm guessing this is a troll thread, but... erm, no.

Of course, it should have been quad-Elite anyhow.

Someone did suggest that the present upkeep could be doubled, and then offer a 25% upkeep reduction for each Elite rank you have (call it a "Pilots Federation subsidy"). So those who hate the idea of upkeep could just get themselves up to quad-Elite and it would all go away.

Quad Elite, Full super power ranks, Full CQC ranking to the top. Sag A visit, Beagle point selfie, Video proof of 50 press ups and 60 crunches while eating a Carolina Reaper Chilli sandwich.
