Newcomer / Intro Swap the Basic Discovery Scanner?

Hey there,

I'm not sure if I get the point of the Basic Discovery Scanner... Is it useful for anything else apart from scanning systems and then sell the info 20 Ly away?

I'm thinking about swapping it for a Fuel Scoop on my Sidewinder. But I don't want to make (another) Outfit mistake...

Any suggestions?

Clear them skies!

EDIT: Forgot to ask this - any one tried the Kill Warrant Scanner? Is it 'worth it'?

If you're not going to explore, sure.. swap it out. It's readily available and cheap should you change your mind later.

The Kill Warrant Scanner can literally triple your bounty hunting earnings. Since you get to claim the warrants for the pilots wanted in other systems. TOTALLY worth it. Actually don't leave home without it!

Thanks! So for I've only managed to sell Exploration Data for around 200-300 CR but just now I managed to sell two for 2.6 & 2.8K CR. So I'll keep the scanner as I do enjoy exploration. Just thought it didn't have any dough in it.

Gonna buy the Kill Scanner right away! Thanks Sargon!

Later down the line, with a surface scanner, you'll multiply that tenfold and more.
It all depends on what you find and if others have found bodies within those systems.

Happy trails!

Also, the further away from that scanned system you try to sell the data, the more it's worth. At least that's what I hear.

One related question for all of you: If you jump to an seemingly empty system, will the DScanner "discover" planets and/or stations that are really there but you didn't previously know about and thus your system map looks empty when you look at it?

Yes, the system maps will not show undiscovered planets or stars.
It will show stations though.

I went to a system earlier that was showing star, one planet and a station... It ended up having 29 bodies. They all later showed up on the system map. :)

Related question - Could anyone please advise if it is necessary to hang onto the Basic Discovery Scanner when an upgrade is desired, or does the Surface Scanner include its functionality? I'd hate to sacrifice two internal bays to exploration gear, but if so, looks like I'm in the market for a bigger ride, maybe an Asp, soon.

No, the DSS does not replace the discovery scanner, you will need both.
