Swapping between using a DS4 and HOTAS

Hi there!

So I´ve recently made the move from the PS4 to the PC, and I haven´t messed about with the control bindings a lot.

Anyway, part of the reason I switched is that I travel quite a lot due to not living in the same city as any of my family. So I decided to buy a gaming laptop and plug in my HOTAS 4, and it´s been working great!

However, now it´s not too long until I will be traveling again, and I don´t feel like bringing my HOTAS in my bag, but I´d absolutely have spare room for a DS4. As of now, my key bindings are stored on the "custom" preset on ED. If I plug in my DS4 and make a setup for this in another preset, will it overwrite my setup with the HOTAS? I spent quite a while getting it right, so I don´t want to find out through trial and error..

Different controllers should have different binding files in your binds folder, so should be ok. To be safe, make a copy of your binds folder before anything, and then you can edit the name of the file, and if you open it in a notepad you can change the internal name that is displayed in ED. This will allow you to separate it from any default naming and should prevent anything being overridden. Then if you go in with your DS4 and setup you can rest assured you have a backup and are not editing the custom bindings you renamed.

If you plug in the DS4 and just use one of the existing presets (e.g. "Classic context", etc), then your custom bindings will still be there when you want to switch back. If however you make any modifications to the DS4 bindings, it will overwrite your custom bindings and replace them with the DS4 bindings.

If you are able to locate your bindings file, you can back it up to another folder and then swap it back in again when you get back from your trip. I personally have never been able to locate the bindings file on the Steam version, though.

It should be the same folder used for both versions. It is on my machine.

I don't use the non-steam version anymore although its still installed, so not sure if they get overridden if you use another copy or anything like that. I wouldnt think so though.
