Switching Ships with Cargo dilemma

There’s more I don’t know about the game than I do know, none of my online mates play the game so I doddle along solo with the Forums as my sounding board and first port of call.

I’ve got a small collection of ships and noticed when I switch that the warning of carrying too much cargo to transfer pops up (obviously when changing to smaller ships)

1: How do you old players deal with this especially if you don’t want to dump cargo if possible?

2: Should Frontier consider storage space in your Home Port to transfer all Cargo to?
(Upfront on this aspect, I already subscribe to ESO with benefits outweighing any modest cost considerations, I’m not too phased by any such suggestions if mooted but neither am I discontented by any opposing views to such - every opinion is valid)

3: Would even a scalable purchase of storage space with in-game currency be reasonable?
(My thoughts are if you play the game and earn the ARX, storage space is essentially Free.)

FDev have frowned on storing cargo. They intend the cargo to be at risk, until it is delivered. They have allotted storage for most everything else, but BGS cargo. That said...

Enter the Fleet Carrier. The Fleet Carrier, I believe, is the only option, for a player, to store cargo items. That is because FC's can buy/sell as a Commodities Market. I didn't mention it right off, because I got the idea you might not have 5 Billion in credits, and the potential; to earn that again as maintenance fees yet.

Thanks!

Problem is, I’ve got luxury cargo which I can sell but mixed with that is a quantity of limpets (which might also be classed as “cargo”?)

Since FDev don’t want to dabble in Cargo Storage for whatever reason (wrongly in my opinion) maybe they’d consider asking the question when swapping ships :-
“Keep all cargo with stored ship/select cargo to swap to retain in swap out”

The analogy would be like, if you’re fortunate/unfortunate enough to be a 2 car family, you don’t take everything out of the big car and cram it into your 2 seater sports job just to go for a run!

Thanks!

This is kind of already how it works, just without the store in old ship bit. If there's enough cargo capacity in the new ship, the cargo transfers as part of the swap. Sell the bits you don't want, then swap ships.

You get rid of excess Limpets buy selling them back to a station. Got to 'Advanced Maintenance', then down to the limpet icon (near the bottom of the list) then sell the limpets back.

Thanks!

Leaving cargo in a ship when switching to another is storing the cargo though.

It can get worse: A ship can't be transferred to another station if it has cargo. (Why? Your guess is as good as mine. I can't think of any logical reason for it, but it just is like that.)

Why does that matter? Well, because you can actually get on-foot to another station without using your ship. After that, you can't transfer your ship there. (Using an Apex taxi is the easiest way. You could also get a ride from another player.)

In fact, if you dock onto a fleet carrier with a ship with cargo and then use an escape pod, you'll be essentially stuck. You can't use any other ship, you can't transfer your ship from the fleet carrier because it has cargo. I can't think of any in-game means of getting yourself unstuck, with perhaps the exception of another player giving you a ride to that fleet carrier. (The other option that requires no help from other players is the boring one.)

Is the other option buying a sidewinder and flying back yourself?

I'm pretty sure buried somewhere in the menu around ship transfer, there's an option to abandon the cargo and transfer the ship. I've used this myself, if I'm not mistaken.

Apparently that's so. Either they have added that option relatively recently, or I didn't notice the last time this situation happened to me.
