System Chat Is Coming!

One thing I've not seen anyone go mental over! System Chat is coming to ED!

Been requesting this feature for years.

I have a feeling my Christmas in ED is going to be better than Christmas in real life... Lol

So many new toys!

You can send each chat type to a different tab if you dont want it to clutter your main chat window.

Theres tons of times over the years that I'd have liked system chat. I've lost count the number of times I've noticed a .o7 just as I'm leaving/entering supercruise and havent been able to easily respond. Folks must think I'm being rude rather than a bit clueless

I always seem to receive a hello just as I'm dropping out of, or jumping in to supercruise. Lol

Plus people can warn others of dangers from anywhere in the system.

And spam of course. Lol

Does system chat only work for that instance? would be cool for everyone (all platforms) to communicate through system chat as that would bring that system community together.

Anybody not immediately visible is basically not in your instance - if they are in normal space and you in supercruise, or both are in supercruise or normal space but far away from each other those are different "islands" that need to be merged by the matchmaker once the players move closer. So system-wide chat will have to reach everyone in the system regardless of instance - the current limitations of the chat come from the fact it's limited to your instance.

I don't know about cross-platform chat though.

Or for any other type of communication. I use K+M so my fingers are usually busy when maneuvering but my mouth isn't.
