Newcomer / Intro System map help...

When scanning a system upon arrival, is it then possible to target unexplored planets/moons etc from the system map or do you have to scroll through every single entry on the left hand panel of the cockpit. Im finding it a chore to do it like this as half of what I target turn out to be worthles asteroid fields.:S Any tips and tricks for using the system map would be greatly appreciated.:)

It's not possible to select from the system map, but when you select a body from the left hand panel, keep an eye on the hologram. It will show you what your current selection is. This way you avoid asteroids.

One way to pick a specific body out of the confusion is to fly perpendicular to the orbits for a short distance, stop, then Count the orbit lines out to your target locate it and head towards it.

Combined with what Ulysses said you can pick out the bits worth selecting by looking at the distance. When I look at the system map and see there is an asteroid belt before the first planet, I look down the list for a big jump in distances. So the first 5 objects are all 3.4, 3.5 ls away and the next one us 18ly. I select the 18ly and it should be a planet. After scanning I check the system map again to make sure that was the first planet.

Also how many moons dies the object on the list have. If scanning something further out and the interesting planet has one moon and the large ice planet has 3 moons you can tell which is which in the list.

I do not forget there is an indent on the list to show objects that orbit other objects.

having said that you should be able to select an object from the system map, its an oversight by the devs. You can do it on the galactic map
