System Map

I know, this is a complaint, but is anyone else getting tired of having to click on the Info tab every time you open the system map while exploring?

Yes.

You should be able to set somewhere which Tab you'd like it to open on.

Whilst having a slight moan... Since the release of Horizons where some planets are now landable, I find not being able to see the planet type after you've scanned it a pain.

Brilliant, Thanks !
You will be telling us that it loads in less than 20 seconds next !

It does :)

Well for me at least, it's ~5 seconds. It's an age old argument and one that may not go away, well depending on how much of an improvement the changes their making in 2.1 make for some people

Worth repeating: if you have a decent PC and play with VSync on, try turning it off; it yielded (in some cases) up to a 60% reduction in System Map loading times for me, as well as several other loading time improvements.

(Also, the headlook animations are much faster, which is really weird.)

Thanks Michael that is brilliant. As an explorer that saves me a small amount of time over and over again. :)

I don't know if this is just me or not........ but after scanning a planet, it used to always confirm what type of planet it is, on screen. Now I need to go and check on the system map, which is a bit of a nuisance.

This is excellent news from MB, as I was finding this annoying too.

Nice try, but I don't think it paid off. Much kudos for trying though I seem to have repped you already today. But then again, it is usually quicker than that for me since 2.0 anyway. The larger systems are still rather slow, but some people seem to have more trouble with it than others.

Is there a setting to stop it from zooming into a body volume instead of just leaving it to highlight a planet and only zoom in when we tell it to?

Yep, if it can be landed on you get the same GUI you get for stations that shows your distance and speed relative to the drop-form-super-cruise-at-target distance and drop-from-super-cruise-safely speed.

It is quite annoying that we can't see both, choose which one we see or see the old body description until we get within a ls or so.

This is fixed in 2.1.

Michael

Awesome news! While exploring it's utterly useless to see the first tab (population info? What population?) for 99.999% of the trip.

Will we see planet type for landable planets again as well, without having to open the system map? Currently, scanned landables only show distance / speed indicator, which too is a pitty.

But on top of that, when the scan completed you'd get the result in bold blue text, as I recall, and think "Wow, an Earth-like!" or whatever.
