System Security v System Security.....Civil War?

The system I'm currently calling home (I'll edit in the name when I get home from work) has suddenly sprouted a Low Intensity Conflict Zone.

I headed over to it last night to see what was going on to find System Security vessels from two of the minor local factions duking it out. I chose a faction and started attacking an enemy Anaconda, expecting to instantly turn 'Wanted', but that never happened. Never got to finish the job either, cos my target fixation clicked in again and I ended up being rammed by a friendly. Barely made it back to the station with my breached canopy.

Isn't there something usually put up on Galnet about civil wars starting? I read the news regularly and didn't see anything about this.

Edit: The system is V374 Pegasi.

maybe the Galnet news fix in patch 1.06 will have fixed this?

Influence, Types Of Wars & Local News/Results

Ways i would like to see ED improve are:

1. Influence

Commanders achieving rank status with the 3 factions should perhaps contribute more influence depending on the factions participating.

e.g Imperial Rank Commander (Squire) helps Empire League in Civil, - rank increases influence boost by 0.009% instead of 0.001%

Commanders having allegiance/ranks with vaires main factions have a percentage penalised.
e.g
Commander Allied to 3 factions contributes 33% of their rank worth e.g 0.003%
Commander Allied to 2 factions contributes 66% of their rank worth e.g 0.006%
Commander Allied to 1 faction contributes 99% of their rank worth e.g 0.009%
Commander Allied to Independant, (but hold no rank with other factions) e.g 0.009%

Commanders have options to demote themselves with various factions, while not affecting friendly status. Commanders only promoting the interest of independent faction will still be able to compete so long they aren't aligned to main factions, otherwise faction ranks will devalue the percentage gain in influence. This also make it difficult for a opposing main faction commander to support a cause of a independent faction against another indep/main faction but not impossible.

Also like mentioned below, an official type of guide hinting at how best to influence a faction towards civil war and how players can do this within the limitation of the game.

2. Civil Wars/Type of Wars

more details and love for the different types of war, they are all called civil wars which makes it somewhat bland, and hard to distinguish the motive behind the conflict. The war of Independance was a civil war in it's own right, yet is acknowledge differently.

Wiki provides the many different types of wars.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Wars_by_type

I believe it would make the universe political system feel a tad bit more alive if different types of wars were displayed, then the generic civil war.

A guide or thread made by the developers giving more clues on how players can best influence a civil war, and the possible scenarios. I have seen factions fighting each other, who both have no control over a station, and is somewhat difficult to understand the motive behind the war, or what they are fighting for exactly. I can presume they are trying to climb the hierarchy for a shot at the controlling faction, but it's just second guessing, and sometimes combat missions aren't available to influence the sides in question.

You must remember not everyone uses the forums, and some people may just be doing what they think is logical to influence a civil war, without much official explanation, it could just be a wasted effort for the commander. I would even go has far to explain also how trade can affect a conflict zone, how much does this contribute to the war effort? and such. E.g High Intense/Low Intense/Checkpoints/Capital Ships zones, is the influence mutiplied for fighting in any? does one have more dramatic influence over another?

Also a snip from another thread: here that sums it up nicely, and i think it would make it somewhat alot more enjoyable, if people can see the actual affects of there actions, and like he say's, what needs to be done by the player, or atleast some given clues to indicate that it may be time to stop shooting stuff in conflict zones and get more arms to the troops.

3. When one of the sides in the conflict has 50 ships left, the conflict is over and the new station owner is assigned or the old one gets to keep their main asset.
4. Players on either side get updates regularly, through the GalNet or directly on the battlefield about how the conflict unfolds and, hence, everyone is aware what needs to be done and in what timeframe.
5. "Stuff" gets delivered by players and NPC on either side of the conflict, which help supplement respective economies and "produce" Y amount of war ships above the regular daily faction ship-producing threshold. Hence, wars have the potential to be perpetual or finite.
6. Pirates hunt traders, preventing them from supporting their economies of choice, bounty hunters hunt pirates, pirates hunt pirates, bounty hunters hunt bounty hunters, and Isinona hunts them all, in no flight assist mode..

3. News & Results

Galnet just doesn't cut it right at the moment, i understand it only tries to cover major events, but what about local news in stations? It's somewhat strange a war can be raging in the next system, and no one is none the wiser despite trade links set up with said system.

Players should be able to look at the station news board and see the events surrounding the occupying system with news for up to at least 30ly away.

There should also be some form of result displayed in the in game news on what happened. Was there a government change? A station changing ownership? A rise to power through influence with one of the lesser powers? A system controller being overthrown?

these are just some of the personal things i would like to see in some fashion or confirmed if they already are working as such in game. Just my personal opinion and wish, and if it can be done better, or a better suggestion made, all the more wonderful.
