System Traffic Reports

The system traffic reports that you can read on the bottom center of the station services menu. Does that count unique CMDR's flying specific models of ships, or does it just count however many times a certain model of ship flew in regardless of who was flying?

EX:
Traffic report says 7 FDLs flew through a system in the last 24 hours. Does this mean that 7 unique CMDRs flying an FDL passed through, or can this mean that the same CMDR flew his FDL through 7 times in the last 24 hours?

It just means that 7 FdLs has docked there in the last day. It could be 7 different FdLs, or one commander seven times you'll never know. :)

It's player ships entering a system. Chris is correct about it counting the same CMDR several times, but they don't need to dock.

It causes some confusion, as there could be several CMDRs in a system mining, fighting a civil war, pirating or bountyhunting, but if they don't leave and enter the system they won't show up on the traffic report

It's a tool for BGS as a gauge, which when put together with an increase or decrease in influence can indicate whether or not another group is active within a system. Also, the top bounties can show if certain CMNDR's are killing off faction NPC's or authority ships to affect the state of the system.

Wings, such as mine, use BGS to control/expand their systems and throw rivals into weakened states.

Limoncello gets it.

Are you certain?
I was pretty sure it's a per-station thing. I think I see different stations in the system have different numbers.

It should be a time thing.
Track the ships on the lists - should be the same list, but by the time you hit the other station a new ship type would be on it.

Limoncello Lizard is right. Find yourself a system on the fringe of the bubble, dock and check the TR. Jump out, jump back in, jump out, jump back in, jump out, jump back and then dock.
And then check the TR. You will see it has nothing to do with docking.
Hence why it can be misleading. Someone transiting through a system is counted in the TR. So it must be used as a guide and in conjunction with the BR and CR to give a clearer picture.

If i remember rightly, it is even down to the counting of Cmdrs that jump IN to a system. So if you jumped in and docked and exited the game and didn't play for 3 days, then left the system; if someone else was in that same system at the same time mining and docking and never leaving the system he would never know you were there and have now left.
A clever undermining tactic for PP I believe, but I never play PP.

It's not very accurate, anyway. If you fly to a low-populated system with an unusual ship, such as a Cobra IV, it doesn't always show up in the statistics. Noticed this first at Jacques a long while ago, but also elsewhere more recently.

It tracks movements through the system, nothing to do with docking at a station. It actually works exactly like real traffic reports, movements through airspace, the same aircraft will be listed multiple times if it is passing back and forth during the day .
