I like the concept of this thread, very cool idea.
Col Frost's system is so close to the bubble at 5000lys out that I decided to head on out there last night and put my name on one of the planets in BLAE DRYE AM-X B20-1.
Here is the system view, so far only Frost's tag is on the main star:
So I carefully flew around looking at some of the planets in the system to find one that struck my fancy. You know after exploring tens of thousands of systems it's actually hard to fly to planets and NOT scan them, but I was careful to not scan anything until I found that one that called my name. And found it I did!!! I chose B2 to put my name on:
It's a little potato world in a close binary orbit with another little world out around the second far star, a good 28,000ls out from the jump in point. When I found it the planet was in the shadow of it's brother, but the orbital period is so quick that as I flew around in orbital cruise it partially came out into the sunlight. It was then I noticed several patches of fog regions scattered about the hills and valleys. I decided to head down and land for a closer look:
It actually got pretty thick down at the surface, but I found a canyon through the mist which looked cool and decided to put down in it.
I had a ball driving around down there, B2 is a very fun and scenic planet to explore. After too long a time though I went back to the Amity 2 and decided to head for the bubble to hand in my data. On the way out of the fog zone though I saw a big blue blip on the surface scanner, something was down there! I headed down for a look see but I couldn't find the source of the contact with the ship, so I set back down again and started searching with the SRV...
...and this is what I found:
Looks like I am not the first commander to ever land on this planet! The escape pods strewn among the wreckage were all broken and ruined though, so whoever crashed here never lived to tell the tale. Probably lost their bearings in that heavy fog and impacted on the surface.
With that mystery solved I left my B2, maybe I'll visit it again someday!
Still plenty of other planets to claim in BLAE DRYE AM-X B20-1.
