Newcomer / Intro T6 trading vs viper/vulture bounty hunting?

Update!

Made my first 3million in an hour this afternoon (well, 3.4 million to be precise). It was an intense and disciplined hour with 1 loo break.

Getting rid of the t6 was the best decision I ever made.

Final loadout is mostly A rated internals, D Shields, D thrusters, 2x gimballed pulse lasers, chaff launcher, point defence turret, shield booster, kill warrant scanner.

Cargo hatch set to prio 2 and I'm golden.

NICE!! I just picked one up my self, now to work my way though some upgrades!

I am Having a hard time finding any pirates at all at RES sites this morning. Anyone else?

Was bounty hunting ninja nerfed? Or am I suffering at the hands of the RNG Gods?

I just got done at a res site and cleared a little over 800k, took a while though. A couple of Anaconda's and Pythons showed up one and then.

did you try turning it off and on again? er, i mean leaving the area and returning?

when a RES is generated it gets given a spawn type, which includes the mix of ships and frequency of spawns. if it becomes clear that the spawns suck, just get out into supercruise, as soon as no players are in there the instance gets killed. then you can return and get a fresh roll of the dice.

I have been thinking about getting a cobra to do some trading when i am getting bored of bounty hunting, since doing the same thing, over and over and over again can get rather tedious.

This is important advice. +1 Rep for that.

I hear tales of people making anything up to 3m an hour bounty hunting with a little luck from the RNG gods. Should I sell up or stay the course?

Given that both are broadly viable courses, do what you enjoy the most. Personally, I'd do both. You can A-Fit a Viper for under 4M, for example, which is less than four hours of trading in your T6. Just remember to keep enough for insurance and a cargo load untouched in the bank at all times- other than that, have fun! It's so much nicer to have options, rather than locking yourself in. I love space truckin', but I do make sure that I always have a fighter or two fitted and good to go, in case I feel like wrecking face.

Fully fitting a Vulture is about 26M, so I'd probably suggest earning that 20M or so for fitting out a T7 and using that to earn the Vulture (or go the Clipper route for trading, if you're into that). That way, you have a solid revenue stream that scales a bit better, but can keep buying toys. On the other hand, a pimped Viper is good for the odd bit of casual destruction, but cheap enough for an impulse buy.

I am not sure if that is true or not any more. No mention of anything in the recent release notes, but it seems to me that there is now always a wide variety of ships.
I now get Eagles, Adders, Vipers, Dropships, Clippers, Condas all the time. Pythons are rare and Wanted Asps are ultra-rare.

I am not yet claiming the advise to be outdated, maybe I have just been lucky the last dozen visits.

variety is the spice of life and a cobra is a good ship for running rares thanks to it's boost speed to help escape player pirates.
