T9 or T10 for new mining? I can't decide.

Personally, I've got a brand new T10 parked ready to receive the new mining modules, but I am still holding out hope for a C1 Seismic Charge Launcher so I can go for the T7 instead.

It's not that. It's that the Python is too good at too many things. Let me ask: why shouldn't an Imperial Cutter be better than a Python at haulage missions? Why does the Python always have to be the best ship?

There is one ship in the whole game that is able to do the high paying 180-200t outpost haulage missions. Guess which one?

Now this ship is going to be the best miner as well?

It is disheartening if you are a fan of the larger ships. The Python deserves its niche but I shouldn't be forced to keep one in my fleet because the economic potential of that ship is so much higher than everything else.

Let ships like the Type-10 be good at one thing at least.

Eh? Cutter is much better than Python at haulage missions!

If the destination is only medium pad it's obviously not. Then Python might be the best choice, but all other medium and small ships are capable of doing such missions now that we can do multiple trips.

If you're a fan of large ships go ahead and fly them, without worrying about whether someone with one of those pesky Pythons is also chewing up ore quickly. Fly the ship you enjoy flying.

I have a liking for the Cobra so I make sure I find uses for it without worrying about whether any other ship will do a job faster.

Well, for all the folks grumping that the Python's too good. Here's my opinion as guide writer and with a few thousand tons of mining behind me: The python and Krait Mk II will be the most flexible miners since they hit the middle ground in agility, size and internals. But they're not the best miners.

Now that there's two styles of mining, I'll wager the 'best' miner for core mining will be either the Asp X or the agile Krait Phantom. These will navigate broken rocks better than a python would.
As for laser mining, the 'best' miner would probably be one of the big ships. T9, T10, Conda, Corvette or Cutter as these things can haul a LOT and still defend themselves in style. That's the big advantage of the T10, it can mine while bristling with turrets and basically ignore a wing of interlopers.

The OP was asking which of the big ships would be good for breaking asteroids apart. It was my wish to clarify how any big ship is less than ideal at that particular role. A phantom I'd definitely recommend for that. Classic laser mining? Go type-10 or conda by all means.

For performance, I'd say : got with the T10.

If time is no factor and the largest Cargo hold is the primary concern? Go with the T9.

Both are sexy Miners :)

The biggest problem i have with the type-10 is the ship kit grade model. You can see the quality / level of detail differences between it and every other ship in the game. Recently got the black friday paint for it which seems to have reduced the number of offensive views to under the pain threshold so kinda enjoying the ship now.

For mining, as long as you have 256 tonnes minimum you'll be good to go. Personally i find im done with the session well before ~220 limpets have been used up.

If with the new method you're going to need to strafe around asteroids in a limited time not sure if the large ships are going to be that ideal..
