So what else did you mean with "Why the hell do i bother?" then? Correct me and sorry if I got you wrong. Just came from the pub and I'm a bit heated from all those negative output and yeah, from the beer too. My selectivity might have suffered...

was on about giving feedback ideas etc... feels pointless at times

Yeah it's gonna be awful having all this new stuff to do out there in the black. Now I can't have my instant gratification anymore! Heavens to Betsy!

Very nice. I see few more participants in the Arrogant Ignorance of the Year competition for DD trolls.

I'm saddened to read you're leaving. I think it's a tad premature though, cos I'm still hoping there's some tweaks that will arrive before go live..

I have found the new mechanics to be irksome. Though I'm also now finding it faster to travel with no distractions to slow me down. Sadly, it was the distractions that made the best part of the game (for me).

I'm not a fan of Bucky balling but it seems to be the way to go now. Get somewhere fast and then look around. Perhaps that's where squadron mega ships come in. Dock, move 5kly or so. Launch. Explore within a small bubble. Repeat.

Regarding some people being worried about vulnerability whilst scanning in Open - you are most likely to meet hostile CMDRs in the Bubble but the new sharing of exploration data should mean that everyone has detailed surface scans of probably every system in the Bubble and for hundreds of LY around (if I understand correctly?). Firing probes is the only time you will be at risk but even then the highest-profile places are likely to get mapped (possibly in Solo or PG) within a day or two.

I got interdicted in Fleetcomm by an NPC whilst FSS'ing. Because throttle is zero, you automatically submit. I think this is a tweak that is required.
For probing, you *can* run with throttle so at least you get the chance to do the minigame to escape interdiction (or you can still submit)

Man...why don't u just leave...what for all this? Just..go away with peace brother...

Man... why don't you just click on my nick... what for is this "ignore" option? Just...click it with peace bro ... (and you will have me gone away [yesnod])

Last night I was interdicted seven times as I tried without success to locate a scenario. If this is progress I'll pass, thanks.

Normally I have no idea why people do 'I'm leaving the game' post. It's almost as if they think anyone cares. Or that everyone is suddenly beg them to stay and promise to make changes.

Howver in this case, I guess, you being a prominant explorer and this being the exploration forum, I will fight against the impulse to roll my eyes and ignore the thread.

But I will say, this does give a tiny bit more chance of the vast majority of us that will just get used to the changes, because everything changes, of finding the next big discovery.

I'm pretty sad if people are leaving - I hope people are giving the new system time - I hated it at first, now I think it's fine. Still learning more though, it is quite complex!

In most cases, I would agree that the "I quit" posts are usually pretty pointless. This is a different case though, since Jackie is big part of the community here, so I didn't have my usual "skip the thread" reaction either. ;)

Quite depressing skimming this thread and seeing so many voices in such strong agreement with Jackie's opinion of the new exploration stuff being a game breaker for them. Are you really not prepared to give it a try before making your decision? As someone who seems to love the intricacies of this wonderful procedurally generated galaxy that Frontier have produced for us I would have thought that you would have been the first to admit that the old "honk and voila, you've found what the current system has to offer" mechanism was a shallow placeholder of an exploration mechanic and that the richness of the galaxy deserved something a lot more "scientific" and "research" like to uncover its mysteries? (not to mention that handing your discoveries in to Universal Cartographics actually now has meaning and benefit for the wider ED community)?

Jackie - I had the pleasure of seeing Cmdr Alot present your early joint findings about the procedural generation system back at Lavecon 3(?) years ago now. It was mind blowing stuff! I wish you well and salute your involvement with this community (but also hope you might reconsider).

My sentiments exactly. I'm saddened, and surprised.

The new system (to me) gives life to exploration. It's made me excited, and I've been having more fun in beta than ever. I've been mapping entire systems, and finding it very rewarding to unveil the system map. I've found more scenic and interesting places in the last few days of beta than in my entire 3000+ hours of Elite!

I hate to see all my 'exploration heroes' so upset. Give it a chance, guys and gals! The new system lets you investigate a system SO much better than the old one did. It's worth learning.

...

Well, the Devs asked for feedback, and "I think this is so bad that I no longer want to be part of it" is about as direct feedback as you're likely to get. 'I quit' posts are no more, or less, meaningful than 'boy, I love this stuff' posts. If lack of regard for others' opinions and viewpoints is the norm, why bother with the forum at all?

Sorry OP but I don't get why you feel the need to leave when all you need it this is Cmdr Qohen Leth's Diagram;-

It took me about half an hour to switch over to the new system (Once the blasted Bindings were sorted) and I was scanning whole systems instead of doing the honk, eyeball and moving on. It seemed like a vast improvement to me. I'm not a hard core explorer but this system would probably make me one.

Was a time when exploring required moving. Now you can explore a whole system of 1MLs without even moving.[haha]

Next patch: "Explore" the whole MW without undocking from SD !! [yesnod]

What is being obfuscated? Please Jack could you be more specific.
A common mistake for new explorers, but there are lots of rare and interesting finds that you can't find with just body types. There has been plenty of discussion on this. In a nutshell: glowing green gas giants, four or more planets all orbiting the same barycenter (or interacting with each other), and so on. At the end of it all is that Frontier's hiding information we used to have, information from the system map: orbits, configurations, distance from entry point (useful for finding trojans), and perhaps some more things I forgot.

The issue could easily be fixed with a small compromise (reveal the system map after the honk but don't make bodies targetable), but it doesn't look like FD's willing to do that... yet?

As far as my knowledge goes, this wave-thing shows only the planet type. This is not enough to make a decision whether the object is worth scanning or not.
Example: usually i skip all Ice Worlds, but when i saw the mass and size of this one (which is not shown in the new system) i decided i will scan it. With the new system i would just skip it. Unless i scan all objects in all systems i visit.

Some of these old VIP "explorers" take themselves just a bit too seriously... Please stay or leave, but please stop being such brake blocks to the future development of the game.

Not liking what is currently on the table does not in any way shape or form equate to not wanting anything new at all. Development, yes, but that doesn't mean blindly accepting the first thing that's proposed. I like the DSS part of the new system but the FSS is awful, artificially busy and needs at least a rethink. Example: if the thing is capable of discening between planet types by a giving you a squiggly line, it's capable of simply stating the thing you're pointed at is "planet type X". The tuning is just pointless nonsense. Another example: if you can individually look at each planet from a single point, you can do the whole lot in one honk. Not all players need all data concerning a planet at the initial scan, so don't put it all in one basket.

For me, what was wrong with the old system was huge payouts for no work. By all means change that - honk gives all planets that are there but no composition and so low pay. Fine for people lke me who want to see if there's something that's interesting to look at and don't care two hoots about pay or ELWs etc. All I want to know is what is it, and can I land on it. Next layer - for those who are interested in such stuff - NOW use the FSS to scan a planet of interest from a standstill, get the composition etc. and more pay, ditto ESSs, etc. I have no interest in them, never once dropped into one. Probes - I think they work fine... bit of a tidy up of presentation and graphics p'haps, but nothing major. If you're really interested in what's on a planet now you can really get stuck in.

Three layers, no-one forced to waste time on a layer they're not interested in, but rewards are there for those who want to dig deeper.
