Target lock view

This is the first combat flight sim I've played that doesn't have the benefit of a target lock view, I generally find this great use close quarters dog fighting. Am I the only one thinking this?

I think it's something like padlock, which is used by many flightsims.
We've had discussions about this before, in particular when it comes to TrackIR (or similar) users.

There were long discussions about this during the Beta period, both pro and con from the users' perspective. IIRC, the one time an FDEV posted about it, they said a padlock view was considered, but not included. They said it was because it would be too difficult to balance as an advantage in combat, compared to the other view systems people use like TrackIR and the Rift. That comment is buried somewhere in the forum archive section on Feature suggestions.

Most of us who feel the need for this kind of thing are already using TrackIR or the Rift to keep eyeballs on target. Both methods are very well supported in the game, which may be another reason why they didn't feel the need for padlock view. Also, given the limited canopy view area in all the ships in the game, a head-tracker is better for quickly glancing down to the scanner for situational awareness in combat (i.e. seeing who is behind you), compared to a padlock view system that tends to lead to target fixation.

Thanks for letting me know it's an old topic, I was a late beta backer so missed a lot of the early development chats. Just seemed strange to me that it didn't have the feature, kind of makes sense saying they're pushing get oculus so hard, I used to swear by it playing tie fighter back in the day. Never mind, I best look at a cheap track it setup then!
