Targeting the power plant with one key?

until I get my next stick with more buttons, I have a voice attack command that cycles through the systems until I shout STOP! then I invariably have to use my, "go back 1" command..! possibly not the most efficient method...

I have Voice attack setup to target the Power plant on anaconda's. Works fine for NPC ships, for anything else it is usually 1 or two clicks out.

This. I have VA set up for power plant on Expert combat rank Anaconda, Python, Dropship and Clipper - its a couple of clicks one way or t'other depending on the rank (NPCs).

How many clicks depends on what ship it is.

Some take 6, some take 7.

Super fast to cycle to it though with the cycle next bound to the two buttons on the X52 though. Plus easy to change subsystem if you are going for drives when pirating rather than being stuck with a 'preset' VA macro that only gives you the PP.

Blimey... Meant to put this in straight afterwards and the phone rang. Rebind warning is tiny, but it IS there. It fades after about 3-5 seconds, so you need to keep an eye on it.

I rebound "Pitch up" to [NUMPAD 4]. You can see that "Roll left" is cleared, but I get the warning:

Thank you TriumphANT! REP to you for letting me know. Now I saw it too, for 3 seconds. But it is there, so I stand corrected. The benefit of a warning fading out after seconds eludes me. Like the benefit of flying to 47 Ceti in supercruise for 20 minutes... :D

I have cycle forward/back on a switch on my H.O.T.A.S. throttle but I agree with you OP, I was just thinking about how it would be really nice is if a player could pre-designate a subsystem they always wanted targeted by default, like a pirate may want to target the cargo hatch or FSD, while a bounty hunter the power plant.

Exactly, that would be brilliant! REP to you too and thank you!

Personally, I would like the ability to change the order of my modules so they don't appear in the same order. I would rather it be more difficult for someone to target the one thing to take down a ship than make it easier. Perhaps putting the discover scanner where the power plant would normally be. Then again, I rather the modules randomize every time I took off.

I like my alternative on an x52 pro. I use the little scroll wheel on the throttle (index finger). It spins through the selections lightning fast back and forth. One full finger swipe scrolls through about 7-8 sub-systems. Less than one second to get the subsystem I need and can always spin one or 2 back if overshot. Has a good intuitive feel on where to stop now. The ticks on the scroll wheel are much faster than each press of any button. Anyways just in case you want to try and compare. I could not go back to buttons after this. Interested to know what you think.

Autohotkey does have pixel color sensoring so you can program it to recognize the pixels shades when the pp is selected. A pretty big effort to make the macro but I guess it can do the trick.

If you use an advanced keyboard, like the Logitech G13 (or any other G type) you can macro a key on that board to hit the "sub target key" x amount of time.
You can even adjust how long to hold down the key and how long to wait until the next key stroke - adjusting for your ping time to the game server.
You can then macro program different G13 keys for different subsystems according to how many time you have to hit the "sub target key".
.
I even do this for the docking permission and put on the ships lights as well - all by hitting one button on my G13 or G105

I mostly use the scroll wheel in this situation. However, both me and my dad's x52s sometimes glitch out when trying to scroll (as in, it overscrolls).

That was the first thing I thought to do but the scroll function of my scroll wheel doesn't work for some reason. Clicking it works, but scrolling it does not. Mouse nipple doesn't work either, which sucks because that's what I would use for head-look. Would be really nice to be able to turn my head.

That really stinks that your scroll wheel isn't detected. Not sure if it is a driver/software/os issue for you since mine is fine. With that said, here is a thread regarding x52 button config issues including scroll wheel that solved some people's problem, maybe yours. I wish you luck since for me the scroll targeting is the best thing ever.
